Deep Blue Something – Breakfast At Tiffany's Lyrics
| 9 years ago
|
@[TheZom2015:4046] I am in agreement with you in a sense. I think the most popular theme explored in these threads is the guy mentions "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in an attempt to convince her to stay in the relationship - "we DO have something in common!", and presumably can build on that.
But to your point, many breakups have the 'break -er' always say the "we have nothng in common" line. Which some people would say is just a BS excuse. Nothing Nothing in common??
So the guy in the song my actually kind of sarcastic. He doesn't buy the 'nothing in common', so he says, What about Breakfast at Tiffany's? And when she says yes- they both kind of liked it. He replies "Well, that's THE ONE THING WE GOT". As in 'So we have NOTIHING in common, eh? Well, what about that?'
But in the end, I think I agree with most everyone - he's trying to hang on. |

Rush – Time Stand Still Lyrics

Wow. There is a big difference listening to this when you were in your early twenties to when you are in your mid 50's. I now have two young sons, and it is true how they say they grow up fast. It really almost brings me to tears- when you are a father just thinking of the time your kids will be grown and away from you- or if something tragic could happen - you can't think of ANYTHING worse.
If Peart wasn't one of the greatest contemporary drummers, he'd be one of the greast contemporary poets. |

Eagles – Take It Easy Lyrics

No one mentioned the line "running down the rosd trying to loosen my load" as a refernce to a trucker (19-wheeler)? I always have taken it to be a trucker tooling down the road thinking to himself about women and life to break up a grueling trip. |

The Alan Parsons Project – Day After Day Lyrics
| 11 years ago
|
After becoming a father, these lines really hit me emotionally:
Remember your daddy
When no one was wiser
Your ma used to say
That you would go further than he ever could
With time on your side
It makes me think of how you idolize your father, you love him ("no one was wiser"). And yet your mother is telling you that you would go futher than he could - kind of uplifting for the child, yet kind of sad.
I know my sons love me very much, but there will be that time when hugging me and kisssing me and laying in my lap will not be cool. Or realize that I am just another guy - not any better or worse than anyone else. I can live with that - but I'll keep trying to hug them for the rest of my life. :) |

Pete Townshend – The Sea Refuses No River Lyrics
| 13 years ago

I think its pretty clear that it is about always finding salvation in god. "The Sea Refuses no River" = "God denys no one salvation. The "turn water into wine" and the....
There was a fool in a dressing robe
Riding out the twilight hour
Lonely and cold in an empty home
Trying to assess his power
But now he's like a stream in flood
Swollen by the storm
He doesn't care if he sheds his blood
Let him be reborn
....section is about Jesus. |

Pete Townshend – A Little Is Enough Lyrics
| 13 years ago

Pete explains in one of his liner notes that he was having trouble with his wife and asked Meher Baba about it. He asked Pete if he thought his wife loved him, and Pete said "I don't know, maybe a little". Baba replied that something like love, which by definition is infinite, then a little is enough. |

Seems to me that this is about being fearful of the world and even though you want to stay 'inside', you want a window to 'look through' to see the world. |

Missing Persons – Bad Streets Lyrics
|
I see this as an expression of "I'm my own person" or "I'm strong" or "I don't take anything from anyone". And "I'm kickin down bad streets" is how she describes it - being a little naughty/independent. But I also get a sense of "Just look at what I'm becoming" is her thinikng that she doesn't like all the bravado either. That there is an emotional price for being that way. |

Missing Persons – Color in Your Life Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
This is one of my favorites of theirs. Its about wanting a relationship with someone. She is appealing to him saying she wants "to be the color that's in your life". I like the metaphor of escaping a life of black and white. Being in a life of black and white (without love/without a relationship) and 'escaping' it to color (in love/in a relationship). |

Yes, I can't believe how many people argue about what a song is about AFTER the writer has even explained it interviews (see Chicago, 25 or 6 to 4).
You may interpret it another way for you, but don't deny what the author has said. |

The Who – Pinball Wizard Lyrics
|
Just thinking....could this song have introduced "wizard" in to common language (in terms of being an expert at something)? I mean, we use "wizard" to describe someone really expert in many things: "he's an Excel wizard", etc. I don't think has been common usage for that long. Before this usage, "wizard" probably literally just meant 'sorcerer' or 'male witch'.

Barenaked Ladies – One Little Slip Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
But they?ll forget about the sky
When they all realize the sky's about to try to learn to fly or hit the ground
I think the second "the sky's" is "this guys" (as in 'this guy is'). Kind of a play on words - 'the sky' and 'this guy' sound the same when you say/sing them. And it also plays into the theme of the movie. |

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – The Impression That I Get Lyrics

No offense, but I don't know how you can be so certain, when you quote the lyric as "if your there before the grays go on" and not "Look at the tested and think there but for the grace go I". Unless thats a really bad typo. |

I think you are making a jump to get to policeman/firefighter. The first two lines say 'tragedy' which doesn't really point any particular way. I don't know why there is the need to get so specific sometimes. Facing adversity. And the anxiety about ever having to.
While I believe your interpretation is a stretch, it works in this case. Good luck on that essay. |

"Because the law don't change another's mind

The Alan Parsons Project – The Same Old Sun Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
A person dealing with being spurned by a lover - kind of an "I'll be alight" in a postive light sort of way. The opposite to "Sooner or Later", which is more of an "I'll be alright" in a more spiteful sense. |

The Alan Parsons Project – Stereotomy Lyrics
| 16 years ago

The lines:
Starlight beams
Project me in red blue and green
Velvet dreams
Protect me when I hit the screen
...are a reference to television. In the now old 'standard' tube TV, the screen (picture) is made up of red, blue and green pxels. If you look very closely at such a screen, you can clearly make them out.
So, taken with the repeated "do anything you want", my early take (without too much thought) refers to how television or video and/or images in general can be deceivving or manipulated. |
