Didn't Tom not even right this song? I watched a 4 hour documentary on Petty the other day and they said that Dave Stewart from The Eurythmics came in with it and it was intended for Stevie Nicks to sing. I think he only had the line "don't come around here no more" written and Petty must have filled in the rest, so it's probably meaningless to him, as many of his songs are. i.e. he doesn't have to have gone through an experience to write about it.
oh yeah, Stewart is also the guy smoking the Hookah in the video. |

I've been a RATM fan for years now, but I don't agree with there support of Jamal. Go to their website BUT also go to Daniel Falkner's website as well. Cop killers generally do get treated worse than most criminals, but cop killing is ridiculous. His website actually has a really good FAQ with logical answers.
I'm not saying Falkner was a saint, but I'd be sad if someone unloaded a revolver into the face of someone i knew. |

It's clearly about Andy Kaufman and how you shouldn't believe everything you're told, like andy didn't. he was original and wanted to do something different. the movie gets into some detail about it. he didn't want to do a sitcom but was made to believe if he didn't he'd become nothing. he was always playing a game with people. he would do elaborate things even though only he thought it was funny. he was always doing things people thought wouldn't work. you can't get lung cancer if you don't smoke, well andy did. the latter part of the song i think is questioning what happens when we die. how come when andy died, instead of going to st. peter he went to a truck stop (andy would have felt fine at one, he worked at a restaurant at the height of his career) and instead of going to the tradition belief of what heaven is (angels flying), he infact just gets to wrestle all the time. it makes sense because andy's favorite thing to do was wrestle. he just enjoyed it. when he died they found uncashed checks from wrestling stints he did. which lead many to believe he just did it for the fun of it. so maybe andy didn't go to heaven, he just went wrestling. |

lactosefreeman, i'm not sure if it has a woodblock or not, but you can definitely tell the difference between the two. i think you can go an amazon and listen to samples from each album. you'll noticed the difference. the wave of mutilation version is shorter. i think the sufer rosa one might even have a slight hint of piano(?) during the last chorus until the end. |
