this song is about a relationship. The different phases of the realtionship are shown through "you're over me..." When he says "You're under me" when she questioned his authority (by not obeying or by lying) he took almost everything from her. It is one of my favorities it has alot of emotion.

Metallica – Master of Puppets Lyrics

I think Metallica was basically talking about any type drug addiction. Anyone who feels a serious connection with that song and a particular drug, has probably some sort of connection with that drug. I know that I truely believe it is a crystal meth song, because that was my master. There lies the genious of it. THis song has helped me many times in my recovery by reminding me what all addicts become.

I think this song is about the fear of relapse into a drug problem. "Old habits reappear....fighting the fear of fear" (thats a reference to relapse) then the paranoia "growing conspiracy..." that is the outcome of the use. "Triggered Again...Now the candle burns at both ends"....that is a meth reference.

I think the lyrics are about a man, who at the darkest period of life realizes there is a God. Along with this epiphany, he accepts his own mortality. As he waits for death, he agonizes over guilt of his past deeds and wonders if he is worthy of heavan...where he desperatly wants to go. He is afraid he can't get in.
