Phil Thompson... NO!!!. Slipknot are a good band in their own right... Unfortunately, you cannot compare A Perfect Circle to them... They simply fall far to short... You say that A Perfect Circle are a rip off of Tool... I think, rather, that they are an evolution on an already awesome band. A Perfect Circle are intricate and their lyrics deep and meaningful... Slipknot are heavy and they simply fall way short in the lyrics area. This song, whilst not being the best on the album, holds it's own based on its originality and the subtle way in which it conveys its message... It is not made to be a heavy song, nor was it made to be compared with the Led Zeppelin version. It was made as a statement to A Perfect Circle's style, one which has worked over and over again and which I am sure will continue to work... Please Phil Thompson, if you are just going to attack A Perfect Circle's music style, do not post here. It ruins the overall meaning of this website... It is a place for people to come and have their say on what they believe a song to mean... It is not here to come and make stupid and unmeaningful attacks... At least put some thought into it if you are going to call Maynard James Keenan female... What about the lead singer of Slipknot, when he is not screaming (Vermillion Pt. 2 for example) he sounds far more feminine than Maynard...

Lacuna Coil continously state that this song has no religious connotations... I also think this song is about how love isn't a great thing... I think its the singer telling someone that though they believe love is so awesome and there is no downside, there is and it is all too prevelant... |

I love this song... I believe that the lyrics tell the story of a person who has fallen for another. The other person tends to lead them on somewhat and as such, the singer continues to get hurt and fall further for them... Haven't most of us been there??? |

Quiffporn, GET OVER YOURSELF!!! HIM are an awesome band who have brought about a new sound. People relate to the lyrics because everyone has been in that situation before... Gloomy Sunday was written by a single Hungarian Composer after a horrible breakup. His Girlfriend wanted him to get a proper job but he continued to chase his dream of becoming a composer. She broke it off and consequently one Sunday, Serres (I think that's how you spell it), wrote this song. Originally it was turned down, the record company saying that it's melancholic sound was beautiful and haunting but it would not be a big seller.
Eventually, it was taken up by another company. Not long after, a spate of suicides were linked with the song. Some of the deceased were found with Sheet Music of the song, or were found with the Record Player still going on the song.
Then the body of Serres' girlfriend was found, she had poisoned herself and in her suicide note had written the words of the song. Serres later jumped off a bridge and took his own life.
Since his death, Gloomy Sunday has been attributed to many suicides, eventually it was banned from the airwaves, except for the instrumental version, when even this version was found playing in the home of a woman who had committed suicide it was also banned.
The song is obviously about a man who has lost the woman he views as his soul mate, it is an extremely sad song who many people seem to be able to relate to. It has been covered by many artists, the best I believe is by Sarah McLachlan (after Billie Holiday of course) and the worst... Bjork... She tried to sex up the song... It just didn't work...Thank you, enjoy. |

I thought the song was about someone in a friendship finally coming to terms and realising that their friend was in fact an enemy. I believe that the lyrics point towards someone maybe discovering a secret held by their friend which hurts them and as such, when they find out the friend attempts to play dumb. |
