Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 3 Lyrics 19 years ago
Angie Chrsit has it right. The phrase writing on the wall is just an expression. It means you finally see the truth that's been staring you in the face all this time. The Wall IS about emotional walls but Roger Waters did perform The Wall live in Berlin after, I think, the Berlin wall came down. In other words he was applying it to their situation at that time even though he didn't write it about that.

U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm pretty sure Bono Isn't Catholic. I don't know about the other band members but I read that Bono was raised by an Aglican and a Protestant but never chose a particular religion heimself.

I did'nt know the Irish Catholic Church found this song offensive. That's interesting.

Evanescence – Whisper Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree the most with DRAMAGALO03. It’s seems to be about a general END. Whenever something ends, eras, relationships, life itself, we always wonder what will be on the other side. Like Donny Darko says, all living things die alone. And this drives us into madness, desperately clinging to anything that will give this END meaning. It's beautiful and terifying all at once.

Evanescence – Imaginary Lyrics 19 years ago
As to whether Evanescence is a Christian band, please see my comments for the song October. I went on about it for as long as I could stand. I am not going to go through it all again for fear I will incur a cerebral hemorrhage.

I think this song is basically about dreaming, literally and figuratively. It’s about the longing we all experience for a better world. At times even a dream world seems better than real everyday life. It’s similar to the Creed song Higher.

Evanescence – October Lyrics 19 years ago
OK, first of all Evanescence has never been a Christian band in the sense that they have never made music specifically for the propagation of Christianity. People who know nothing about recording labels and genres don’t seem to understand that CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) is a specific niche market genre in the music world. As far as I know they have never been a part of that. They definitely are not now. I don’t know the hearts of every member of the band but I know that Amy Lee thanked the ‘Lord Jesus Christ’ or words to that affect, in the liner notes of Fallen. I also know that after Christian books stores took Evanescence off of their shelves Lee said in an interview ‘We never said that we are not Christians. Just that we are not a Christian band.’ As far as Amy saying that she has no specific religion, I doubt that since I don’t know of many Jews or Buddhists or Deists that thank Jesus Christ for their success. When Aerosmith thanks a high power they call it a higher power, not Jesus. She could have just meant that she isn’t a particular kind of Christian. That she doesn’t adhere specifically to this or that denomination: Catholicism, Southern Baptist, Episcopal, Methodist, etc. Many Christians claim this.

Like Sixpence None the Richer, ignorant Christians AND non-Christians erroneously believed that Evanescence renounced Christianity because they didn’t want to be pigeonholed as a Jesus rock band. I wonder about the intelligence and depth of people that make these giant leaps. Why does every song a Christian writes have to be about Christianity? What next? Can Mel Gibson only do movies about Jesus from now on?

As far as this song, I would be surprised if it were not written in worship. The very sound of it is praise oriented and the lyrics fit perfectly, especially the parts about ‘falling’ and ‘grace’. When was the last time you thanked your significant other for their grace? Come on. It could be used in church without missing a beat. But even if it isn’t about God, I don’t care. Music doesn’t have to be made to please my sentiments. This song makes me think of the Cross but if they wrote about something else, it’s fine with me.

More to the point, like gabelogan99, I would like to know why this song is called October. Any ideas?

Electrasy – Chemical Angel Lyrics 19 years ago
This song rocks out loud. It's perfect for parties and dance clubs expecially as a first song.

As far as I can tell, the song is comparing a woman to drugs. He wants someone that will be as exciting and rebellious as drugs. If you're into that sort of thing, of course. And if you're not I guess a lovely woman can be as exciting to a man as drugs are for some people.

Electrasy – Beautiful Insane Lyrics 19 years ago
This song must be a b-side or something cus it’s incredibly hard to find and doesn’t really sound anything like the rest of their music. Really it sounds more like Radiohead than anything else. As far I can tell, the lyrics have something to do with the progression of technology in the postmodern world. I don’t know why the narrator of this song feels he has to be ‘everyone’s magician’. Maybe it’s specifically about how technology is changing the face of music. People who can’t really sing can be made to sound like they can because of new production tools. (Sugar Ray, Brittany Spears, Avril Lavigne) If this climate furthers, music will have more to do with style than music, more symbolism than substance. Maybe he is saying he feels responsible to carry the torch for real talent in the music world. Your guess is as good as mine. Unless, of course, you can find some interviews. :-)

Radiohead – I've Seen It All (Featuring Bjork) Lyrics 19 years ago
Has anyone noticed that in the movie Bjork is using sign language that is the opposite of the words she is saying? I think he character is trying to convince herself that there is nothing left for her to see/do with her life other than help her son. The sign language tells us she DOES care but decides her son's dreams are more important. It's a true spirit of sacrifice.

Hooverphonic – Battersea Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree. This is song is almost epic and makes the whole album experience feel like flying above the world.

This song makes me think of two people who’s lives are so different, so irreconcilable with each other that there is nothing there to build a relationship on.

Sixpence None the Richer – We Have Forgotten Lyrics 19 years ago
Before their new record label completely revamped Sixpence’s official website, Matt Slocum explained the first three songs on this album are a trilogy. Despite whatever double spiritual meaning these lyrics may have, We Have Forgotten is about groping for one’s dreams and them seeing them crash when everything in life distracts you from your real goal. In this case, the money and excitement of being in a band distracted Sixpence from their simple dream of creating good art. The line about starting to like this town is an expression of this complacency. Anything describes trying to create art despite the powers at be simply exploiting the subject for money. The metaphor of giving birth is used here. Not to mention them using his talents to be forged into just another Jesus band. In Waiting Room of the World the subject calls out to the same baby, born in artistic haste to please the puppet masters, and ask when it’s true form will appear.

In other words, this trilogy, together with other songs on this album, is about how the CCM industry screwed them over. I would cite my sources as proof, but like I said, their old website is gone.

Sixpence None the Richer – Angeltread Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree these are some of the most vague lyrics I have ever heard. I have been a Sixpence fan for six years and I’m not sure I am any closer to deciphering this song. The only thing I have been able to gather is that this song is about longing in general. The subject wants get outside of his head and search for Angle tread, where God has left his fingerprints. I also think the verse about crickets singing could be an allusion to the scripture about creation groaning in labor pains to be made new. After six years this is all I have. Can someone help me out?

Sixpence None the Richer – Melody Of You Lyrics 19 years ago
I think Sixpence makes some of their lyrics vague on purpose. I actually think it is both as the same time in that teh band sees God in their art.

Sixpence None the Richer – There She Goes Lyrics 19 years ago
Could it be that Matt Slocum and Leigh Nash really didnt care if this song is about heroin or not? If everyone is free to interpret, isnt a cover band free to cover with their own slant on the meaning?

Sixpence None the Richer – Kiss Me Lyrics 19 years ago
My God some of you people must never do anything but masterbate and smoke weed.

This song is by a Christian band. It is about two people (one man and one woman) who are in love. I have been a Sixpence fan since way before they got famous with this song. Trust me, they have no interest in lesbians or drugs. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get a life.

Oops I confused the remix of Headphones with this song. Sorry. :-P

The cave version of this song on the Family Tree Box set is kinda spooky though. Famil Tree was the first Bjork CD I actually bought. I love it.

Björk – Headphones Lyrics 19 years ago
The remix of this song on Telegram is eerie. It almost changes the context of the song from from ‘my headphones saved me’ to ‘I think my headphones are alive and going to eat me as I drift off to sleep’. I read that she wrote this one for a producer or mixer or someone else she worked with. I think it’s also about just how powerful music is.

Björk – All Is Full of Love Lyrics 19 years ago
From what I have read, many of the songs on Homogenic were inspired by her relationship with Goldie. I think most of Bjork's songs have open meanings. So what many of you have said could be valid but I think she is also saying to Goldie that he might not understand what she is saying to him through this song but if he takes the phone off the hook, shuts his door and basically listens to his heart he will understand what love is and will look for it everywhere. It’s kind of a sequel to 5 Years where she says ‘you can’t handle love’.

Björk – Big Time Sensuality Lyrics 19 years ago
Its not just about orgasms, trust me. Bjork has said in interviews it was about her relationship with Nelee Hooper. I believe they did have a sexual relationship but it was also about the music they made together. If you dont believe me, read There's More to Life Than This: the stories behind the songs. Bjork is a very open person and has no reason to lie.
