Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 17 years ago
It's a really powerful song protesting the Vietnam War. I think the most moving bit is when he says "They're still here, he's all gone". It shows the futility of the whole thing.

In the chorus, he's totally being sarcastic when he says "born in the USA". i think patriotism is the last thing on his mind.

The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is about teenage angst, about the transition from teenage to adult. it's about 'teenage wasteland'.

it's definitely not about hitler n whatever else shauncreany said. it were the aryans who were the blue-eyed ones n not the jews.

Led Zeppelin – That's the Way Lyrics 18 years ago
i think this song epitomozes everything about the hippy movement with all the 'hair hanging down'. plant is kind of protesting against injustices like discrimination and stuff especially in the line - 'But now's the time to look and look again at what you see, Is that the way it ought to stay?'

it's a beautiful song. one of zeppelin's best. it always makes me sad when i hear it.

no, i definitely don't think this song is aout sex. it's about the love of music and rock and roll.

Led Zeppelin – Ramble On Lyrics 18 years ago
i think this song refers to plant's own experience and discovery of LOTR. the 'girl so fair' is probably the ring. oh, and dr_feelgood, frodo came back to the shire after about 3 yrs. it took him a year to journey to mordor and the rest of the time he was lounging around in rivendell and minas tirith.

anyway, it's an awesome song. i love this mystical side of led zeppelin. the music is also really cool. it suits the lyrics. this is definitely one of my favourites!

Green Day – Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? Lyrics 18 years ago
Thank you lyss!!!! Finally someone agrees with me!! I do not like catcher in the rye. it's depressing as hell!! that holden caulfienld is not a non-conformist, he's an escapist. he's lazy and is just looking for excuses to bitch about the world in general. he would do a lot better if he just got off his ass for one minute!

anyway, this song's awesome though and so is greenday! i think they are one of the few bands that actually sing about things that matter!

awesome song!! rainbow is a highly underrated band. very sad! :(

Led Zeppelin – That's the Way Lyrics 19 years ago
this is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard!! the music is so soothing but the lyrics really depress me. i agree with xonix. the song gives a really important message. the line "all you do is stand and cry" sounds so despodent that the first time i heard it, i felt like crying. definitely one of their best!!

submissions
Bob Dylan – Oh, Sister Lyrics 19 years ago
i think he's talking about religion rather than humanity. he's talking about the common purpose of all religions and asking for a stop to all the conflicts between them.

i think the last line is the best in the song. bob dylan is an amazing poet!!

Led Zeppelin – Trampled Under Foot Lyrics 19 years ago
this is, without doubt, led zep dirtiest song. totally talking about sex. never realised the song was this bad until i read the lyrics, though. but it's really funny!!!! love the song!! lovely guitaring and plant's voice sounds soooo sexy!!!

Led Zeppelin – The Rain Song Lyrics 19 years ago
everyone who says that stairway is better than this song is a wannabe led zep fan. they don't really listen to the songs.
stairway doesn't even compare to the rain song!! this is an awesome song!! the music is soooo good!!! jimmy page is god!!

can anyone tell me what shangri-la (in the 5th verse) means?? oh and this song is too beautiful and sounds too meaningful to be about drugs.

Deep Purple – When a Blind Man Cries Lyrics 19 years ago
it's one of the saddest songs i've ever heard. it's so short yet it conveys so much sorrow, especially the last line: "When a blind man cries, Lord, you know he feels it from his soul."

i think he's shut himself off from the rest of the world. but what i can't figure out is why he calls himself a blind man...

Deep Purple – Holy Man Lyrics 19 years ago
this place sucks!!!!!!! why are there no comments on beautiful songs like this????!!!!

the only thing i can figure out about this song is that he's being sarcastic when he says 'i'm a holy man'. it sounds like a very bitter song. it's really sad coz he's talking about how he's always been alone.

gillians voice sounds really good in this one. it kinda adds to the atmosphere of the song. it's one my favourites, right up there with soldier of fortune and perfect strangers.

question... how's this song supposed to be funny?? i can't find anything in it that sounds remotely funny...

Led Zeppelin – No Quarter Lyrics 19 years ago
this song sounds very lotr-like to me. it totally fits into the story especially with the references to norse mythology. tolkien based his books heavily on norse mythology and even borrowed the ancient icelandic script for one of the elvish languages.

anyway, i think in the first few lines:
("Close the door, put out the light.
You know they won't be home tonight..." ) refer to the people that are waiting for the fellowship to return: arwen in imladris and frodo's friends in the shire.

the rest of the song probably refers to aragorn's passage through the paths of the dead. the dogs of doom are the wargs, though, as far as i remember, they feature a lot earilier in the book. the part about the devil obviously refers to sauron. although, sauron never really makes his grand appearance, he's omnipresent throughout the book.

all in all, it's a really cool song. definitely shows plant's song writing abilities. he can really give waters and gilmour a run for their money! ^_^

Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand Lyrics 19 years ago
stairway to heaven is amazing but it really pales in comparison to this song. the lyrics of achilles is soooooo amazing!! it's definitely one of their best!! the best thing i like about plant's lyrics is that they're multi-dimensional. you can read a hundred meanings into them and there'll still be new ideas and points of view. anyway, i think it refers to lotr, morroco, the odyssey and plant's accident.

lovely song. love gillian's voice especially in this song. the guy can really scream but it sounds damn good!! he can really give robert plant a run for his money!! ^_^

it's got damn good lyrics too! i never thought of the blind man as the USA but now that i think of it, it makes perfect sense. it's really cool!!

The Doors – Light My Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
i read somewhere that is song is about morrison. kreiger wrote it as an ode to jim. anyway, since mr mojo kinda symbolised sex and drugs at that time, u guys aren't too far from the truth.

anyway, i think kreiger's guitar completely overshadows both manzarek's keyboards and even to an extent, morrison's voice.

and, PB1, the doors were very anti-authoritarian. in the later years, morrison turned up drunk for most of the concerts. one time, (i think this was the last concert) he was so drunk that he was abusing the police on stage so they just came and dragged him off the stage and threw him in jail. i don't think you can get any more anti-authoritarian. ^_^

Pink Floyd – Poles Apart Lyrics 19 years ago
the first verse is definitely referring to syd coz i don't think gilmour would ever call waters 'golden boy'. besides, syd was the golden boy of the band as he kinda started it and was the creative genius behind it in the beginning and later he was the source of inspiration.

as for the second verse, i'm not too sure if it refers to waters or not. i dunno whether he means that waters is leading the blind because, that doesn't make sense. when he was in the band, they were at the peak of their success. i dunno, i'm totally conused after the 1st verse.

the last part might mean that gilmour is totally uncertain abt his feelings becoz well... after waters left the band they did get the freedom but it was never the same again. he's not sure if it was good or not. but he does acknowledge that the best times was when waters was there.

any suggestions, anyone??

Pink Floyd – A Great Day for Freedom Lyrics 19 years ago
when i first heard this song i also thought it was abt the berlin wall coming down. but as the song progresses, it takes on a very bitter tone which i could never figure out. but it totally makes sense if the song is abt waters and how much freedom that the band had after waters left. either, wonderful song and gilmour is undoubtedly one of the greatest song-writers ever!!

submissions
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 19 years ago
damn!! i'd never thought of that sipayi, that they were visualising syd playing with them that is soooo sad!! anyway, this is definitely written abt syd. the first part refers to how syd was always high and hence couldn't differentiate between illusion and reality and the second part is abt how their friendship with syd finally broke up and now they're just 2 lost souls without each other.

submissions
Pink Floyd – Lost for Words Lyrics 19 years ago
yep. it is definitely one of floyd's best songs but i know many ppl who don't consider the last 2 albums as true floyd coz roger waters had left by then. it's sad coz those two albums have got some of the best songs. anyway, as for the song, i think gilmour is talkin abt someone specific that's why he put 'Right One' in caps. i think, maybe, he's talkin abt waters.

submissions
Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1 Lyrics 19 years ago
i think in this song waters is talkin abt his own father who went to war and died. as for the wall being based on syd barret, i don't think so. wish u were here is based on him. the wall is pretty much waters' album and i think for the most part, he's talkin abt himself (he was very self-centred). he completely monopolised this album.

The Beatles – Let It Be Lyrics 19 years ago
i dunno whether this song is abt Paul's mom or not but as far as i've heard from everyone around me, he's talkin abt marajuana. but whether abt pot or his mum or abt the beatles breakup, it is by far one of their greatest songs.

John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics 19 years ago
by pkjun on 06-02-2002 @ 04:29:20 AM
Oh my god! Lennon is actually Lenin! Lenin didn't actually die--the famous corpse is actually a wax dummy...KGB agents resurrected Lenin years after his "death", dressed him up, and sent him off to morally subvert America! It all makes sense now--listen to Side Two of the initial release of Abbey Road backwards, and then listen to Imagine sped up three times while turning the treble all the way up and the bass all the way down--starting to get it? Now play Strawberry Fields Forever next to a backwards loop of the "why she had to go I don't know" part of Yesterday (The name similarity between McCartney and Marx is too great to ignore) and you'll understand. Then cut any Meet the Beatles US release LP into quarters and rearrange them backwards, and listen to it normally whilst reading Das Kapital.

I can't believe nobody's seen this before!

ur kidding right?? did u actually do all of that or are u tryin to be sarcastic??

i mean the guy is a communist and there's no denying that. look at his lyrics. totally communist but then again, all brilliant ppl are either gay or communist. also, i don't see what's is so bad abt being a communist. although they do tend to be a little impratical, their basic ideal is peace, a better society and equality. what's wrong with that??

john was also a totally idealist. this is by far his greatest song. it's pure poetry. the guy was a genius!! damn!! whenever i hear this song, i feel so sad knowing that he's dead. :( i hate chapman!!!!!!!

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 19 years ago
For Christ's sake!!!!!! this song not abt Paul being dead!! in that line which says "he blew his mind out in a car' john is talkin abt this article which he saw in the daily mail. the article was abt the son of some lord who died in a car crash because he hadn't seen the lights turn red. there is nothing more to it. most of this song is inspired from articles in the newspaper.

and as for Paul's part, i think he's talkin abt drugs especially where he says "...i had a smoke and someboby spoke and i went into a dream...'

The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics 19 years ago
oh for Christ's sake!!!!!! did u actually believe the stuff that was written on that site, philadelphia eagles??!!! it's the worst rubbish i've ever seen!!! paul is not dead!! and that site was really really bad, especially the part abt his dead body lookin like a walrus!!

and as for this song, it doesn't have any meaning at all and congratulations to those who have wrung out any semblace of sense out of it because i bet john to sadistic pleasure it writting stuff that had no meanings and hearing others' interpretations of it. i really wish he were alive to see this page. he'd be rolling on the floor laughing!!

The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics 19 years ago
i agree with gurlmom. the song was probably inspired by julian's drawing but john was probably totally high when he wrote it. of course, he was probably high when he wrote all the songs during this period. anyway, whether abt LSD or not, this is one of the beatles' greatest songs and john voice is sooooo mesmerising!!

oh, btw, has anybody esle noticed that the fight (abt whether this song is abt LSD or not) is a trifle funny?? ^_^

The Beatles – Here Comes the Sun Lyrics 19 years ago
i heard somewhere that in this song george is talkin abt their first paycheck and how good it felt to be earnin their own money.

anyway, i gotta disagree with metallicman123 abt ringo. i don't think he's underestimated. he's said to be the beatles' most brilliant mediocrity. he's a good drummer but he doesn't even compare to the others' brilliance, i mean, the other three are complete geniuses. in fact, i think george is more underestimated than ringo.

The Beatles – Across the Universe Lyrics 19 years ago
john wrote this song coz he was inspired by the line 'sounds of laughter, shades of love'. he actually wrote the entire song just because he wanted to include those lines in it. he was in india when he wrote this song, at the maharishi's ashram.

The Doors – The Unknown Soldier Lyrics 19 years ago
i dunno why but this song reminds me of the vietnam war. i think he's talking about how so many young people died uselessly in that pointless war. and how the survivors have no life left for them when they return after the war. all in all, it's a really sad song.
i could never figure out what the line about television and children fed meant but bluebirdofpeace's explanation seems pretty plausable.

The Beatles – Free as a Bird Lyrics 19 years ago
whenever i listen to 'free as a bird' and 'real love' it really makes me wanna cry. the beatles have always excelled in expressing emotions through such simple words and melodies. i think in these two songs, john is talkin about the lost friendship between the four of em. Damn! why do all the good bands always have to break up??!!
