Eels – Ugly Love Lyrics 19 years ago
It's kind of a humorous song, about an ugly guy who hasn't had much luck with relationships getting set up for a date. He hopes that this will be the one, that she won't run away screaming and that maybe they'll be together for eternity. However, if she cares about superficial stuff like the car he drives, he won't have her.

Eels – Trouble With Dreams Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about how things in dreams don't always come true, no matter how much you want them to. Specifically, it uses the example of a guy wanting a girl, and he doesn't feel the feelings are mutual, so he keeps their relationship in his dreams.

Eels – Old Shit/New Shit Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about how people always want to move on in life because it always seems bad at the current, even when it changes. "Everyone loves you, nobody cares"/"Nobody loves you, everyone cares".

Eels – Jeannie's Diary Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about being obsessed about a girl, even though you can't completely understand her. People seem so much more interested when you're obsessed with them. But it also feels harder to accept why they won't have you. And he just wants to feel that he has the chance to be written about in her diary. Just one page, and he'd be happy.

Eels – Blinking Lights (For Me) Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is about how when things don't feel right, you can just see how everything in life is connected (through the blinking lights, in this case). It kind of brings you back, like the song says about the chopper, "set me on the ground once more again."

Ben Folds – Bastard Lyrics 19 years ago
"They get nostalgic about the last ten years
before the last ten years have passed"

This line really represents the theme about growing up too fast. When you're "an old bastard" in your 20's, all you have to look back on are the last 10 years, as if they were "the good ol' days".

Sonic Youth – Peace Attack Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a simple song with few words that speaks volumes. It's a soothing song that's simply about peace. "Spring time is war time." I love that line. It's a nice song that shows how people try to bring war through peace. It just can't work. Hence the title, peace attack.

Sonic Youth – Unmade Bed Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a song about a girl that always takes back the same problematic guy when he comes back. The narrator is just watching it happen, and wishes that she wouldn't do it to herself.

The Shins – Girl On The Wing Lyrics 19 years ago
"before we take this ride and let it slide
into the cracks where fall and winter collide."

That's one of the catchiest lines ever written. I love The Shins and Mercer's use of words. This is a great example of it.

The Clash – Death or Glory Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think it's right to say anyone is right or wrong or dumb. I mean, the beautiful things about interpretting song lyrics is that anyone can get anything from it. I do, however, agree with cola bottle. The song seems to mean that, whether you obtain glory or end up dying for a cause, in the end, it becomes "just another story." All of the great things in life become "just another story." And the beat of time is what makes things move on.

David Bowie – Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's kind of a mix. It is about the death of the Ziggy character and the death of Ziggy's career. Like most great rock star's, Ziggy was gone much too soon. That's what it is.

David Bowie – Lady Stardust Lyrics 19 years ago
As a part of the Ziggy concept, Ziggy first appears on stage to become a rock star, and Lady Stardust sings along. Mostly his first time on stage, though. Great song.

David Bowie – It Ain't Easy Lyrics 19 years ago
In my opinion, the song is just about how it's easier to dream than it is to do something good. "It ain't easy to get to heaven when you're going down." The beginning is saying when you're looking at the sea (or just in deep thought) you can think about everything possible, but when you look at the town, you just see all of the problems.

David Bowie – Star Lyrics 19 years ago
The song, alone, is a pretty straight forward song about people becoming rock stars to try to make a difference in the world. However, when brought together with Ziggy, I think that it's no surprise that a song called "Star" among an album full of space and star imagery is actually about becoming a rock star, rather than stars in general. Kind of showing the connection between being a rock star and traveling the final frontier.

David Bowie – Moonage Daydream Lyrics 19 years ago
This spacey space track is a part of the concept of the Ziggy Stardust album. Although the song doesn't specifically tell any story about Ziggy, I feel that it represents his space journey. It does work, too.

David Bowie – Soul Love Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of my favorite Bowie songs, especially since I love Ziggy Stardust so much. I believe that the song is just about different kinds of love, like the love of a mother to her dead son or the love between a boy and girl, a priest and God, etc. It's a beautiful song, really. I like how Bowie can write a love song that isn't just about a girl or something, but just about love in general. Pretty awesome.

David Bowie – Five Years Lyrics 19 years ago
It really is a great song. I may be wrong, but I believe this is about Ziggy's planet being having five years left, and observing the different chaos that this brings among the people.

Pixies – Bone Machine Lyrics 19 years ago
I always thought that the "our love is rice and beans and horses lard" referred to the line before, "your Irish skin looks Mexican" (great lyric).
