Keane – Somewhere Only We Know Lyrics 19 years ago
There's something odd about the way the singer addresses his lover as "simple thing," if in fact the song is addressed to his lover.

Another interesting thing is the possible double meaning of "Is this the place we used to love?" This could mean either "Is this the place where we used to love each other (i.e. make love)?" or it could mean "Is this the place that we used to love?"

The Monkees – Daydream Believer Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, the lyrics are incorrect. It should be "Oh, and our good times starts and end without dollar one to spend. But how much, baby, do we really need."

The guy is speaking to his girlfriend. Regardless of their difficulties (e.g. no money), they can still be happy ("How much, baby, do we really need?")

In the first verse the guy explains how he could go on sleeping and dreaming the day away, but the alarm clock and the sometimes painful reality of everyday life intrudes ("The shaving razor's cold and it stings.") He can deal with it, but his girlfriend still needs cheering up.

It's unclear to me, though, whether Jean is both the "daydream believer" and "homecoming queen" or whether the narrator is the "daydream believer" is the "homecoming queen."

The Beatles – We Can Work It Out Lyrics 19 years ago
Maestro's the only one who's getting the point here, in my humble opinion. Though the lyrics seem to be promoting understanding, the narrator is asking the girl to see his point of view. If she doesn't, he says, things may fall apart. He NEVER entertains the notion that he should try to see it her way. It's always seemed to me to be poking fun at a character who can't see that his own stubbornness is sabotaging his relationship. (If this isn't true, then the lyrics are some of the most unintentionally insensitive I've ever seen!)

Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street Lyrics 19 years ago
It's been said this is about the folkies who turned on him after he went electric at Newport. (I've heard it said recently that it was about Joan Baez, but I'd never heard that before and don't believe that interpretation.)

Elvis Costello – Alison Lyrics 19 years ago
It's always seemed to me that "put out the big light" means that the narrator thinks Allison herself should be "put out of her misery" because he "can't stand to see her this way." There's really no indication that Allison's life is bad other than the narrator's word. But can he be believed? He's jealous and resentful, in love with the idealized image of a woman that he really can't stand.

The Beach Boys – Feel Flows Lyrics 19 years ago
Brian didn't write this song. His brother Carl did. The other Beach Boys did have talent. Dennis wrote some great songs, too. "Forever" on the album Sunflower is probably his best.

The Clarks – Born Too Late Lyrics 19 years ago
Definitely Thomas Edison since he's associated with the invention of the light bulb. But my friends and I have wondered about that Jerry. I did think it was Garcia but wasn't sure.

Also, the lyrics should read, "Christopher, I think I see the bay" from what I've read.
