| I am a strong Bush supporter, but I do like the Dixie Chicks and I felt for them when they went through so much just for speaking their minds. Though I don't agree with what they said, nobody deserves to get death threats. Our country is great because people like the Dixie Chicks can speak their minds. I love this song, because if I were in their shoes, I would be unable to get over what happened to them. I just wanted to post this to show that just because I like Bush and I am a Republican, it doesn't mean I think the death threats and name calling were justified. | |

| Obviously the guy is cheating on his girlfriend or wife. However I disagree with everyone on the meaning. I feel like he is possibly (but not necessarily) in a relationship with Josie, but feels like he can't talk to her or open up to her. So he turns to this young girl who he likes but knows is wrong for him, just for one night, to ease his troubles. He doesn't have many friends anymore, and he cares deeply about the girl, but is aware that it can't go past that one night, keeping it under cover. Its a great song and I relate to it, being in similar situation myself. | |

I totally have, and thats why I get this song so much. I don't listen to trance and techno that much (only when the occasion calls for if you know what I mean :P) but this is the one techno song I can listen to when I'm not under the influence and during the day. I kind of agree with the whole love affair theme for the song. Hey my love do you believe that we Might last a thousand years Or more if not for this? Our flesh and blood it ties You and me right up Tie me Down These lines kind of imply an affair, with him wondering if they might last forever if they werent already bound to different circumstances (flesh and blood could mean family, wives, husbands, etc.). You drive me to distraction also plays along the love affair theme. Just my thoughts. |

| I agree with davidcoyote in that the song is about a past relationship that was filled with deceit and lies...the person who is "I" in the song is too filled with pride and dignity to let himself have too much sorrow over someone he compares to as a piece of trash. He deserved better and he knows it....he won't sit around pondering the relationship because he knows she will get whats coming to her...she will eventually feel guilty. Though he knows she is fantastic on the outside and she will find someone new in a minute and will carry on in life, she will always have a twinge of regret for the way she treated him. Basically, he is saying "I'm not going to sit and hate you forever for what you've done to me because you'll get whats coming to you and I have too much pride to ever take you back if you come running to me. You won't be mine, EVER and stay the fuck out of my life. Youll feel guilty and youll regret what you did but I don't care because you are a piece of garbage." Amen! | |

| Petty wrote this album following his divorce. I take it to be a kind of reconciliation with his ex-wife who he really did love but realizes that it wasn't meant to be. He is bascially telling her he never has found another person who compares to her, and that she needs to move on, go find a lover, but please stay close to him in her heart. Its basically just a love song to someone who he knows he will never be able to be in a relationship with, but he wants her to be happy and free. I think this is a beautiful song and i feel this way about past loves. It won't work out with us but you are a wonderful person and I will always love you, is basically what he is saying. | |

the man in my shoes runs the light all the papers lie tonight but falling over you is the news of the day i think this basically means that he feels like he doesn't belong in his shoes....maybe that that he is numb from pain and feels like he is watching himself from afar...the man in his shoes runs the light (the running the light part is confusing though) but that he doesnt feel like he is really there in heart, just in body. Also I took the part about all the papers lie tonight just as being that newspapers always lie, but in his life the only news is that he is mourning the loss of his past lover. A great song. |

| theRick is right in his own way but the beauty of songs are that they allow you to interpret them anyway you want...if you see them in a certain light thats what they mean to you, but if someone sees them in a different light thats what the song means to them. I dont think anyone is right or wrong...sure the artist might write them to mean something, but if what you see is something different, then who cares? Thats why so many songs have meaning to me, and thats great that everyone sees the meaning differently. No two people are the same, and no two people see the same song to mean the exact same thing. | |

To me Clocks is about an illicit relationship on the part of the person who is not the "cheating" (if you want to get juvenile) party, but the one who is in love with the cheater. The first few lines talks of tempation into something that they both know is wrong. Shoot an apple off my head-how long are they going to pull this illicit affair off until they are caught...flirting with disaster. Confusion never stops-this situation is filled with constant confusion and what ifs, what if we had met 5 yrs earlier, what if we are caught, what if i love her/him, what if i dont, i want to get caught, i dont want to get caught, it is continuous. Nothing else compares-this person becomes perfect to you, your ideal b/c you only see the good side, the loving side, the side they want to show you when the whole time the relationship is based around deception. |
