The American Analog Set – Continuous Hit Music Lyrics 19 years ago
Is it just me, or does this song sound vaguely political?

"No... we didn't know to use it"- ie our rights, the system in general
"So... we lost the right to choose it"- no one did anything, so now the corporations and other politicians are pretty much deciding who gets into office
"When... they took it and abused it" -I don't even think this one needs explaining. Turn on the news, you'll see it.
"Oh... continuous hit music"- our obsession with entertainment, so what if our country is going to hell in a nice little handbasket, at least we get our 50 minutes of music, right?

This kind of reminds me of the fall of Rome... bread and circus, you know?

Interpol – Slow Hands Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow. Yay for pretentious indie fucktards. Just because its on the radio and is *gasp* accessible doesn't mean its total shit.

Its not the best song on the album, but its still really good. I like Interpol's slower stuff better, but the album would get monotonous if there wasn't anything upbeat to counter it. Besides, a danceable song is always fun.

Bob Dylan – With God on Our Side Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually, just a minor correction. The Nazis were actually very intolerant christians. Hitler himself was a devout christian who led thousands to believe that Jews were evil based on the bible. However, the anti-semitism has always been present in Europe and probably always will be. Even before the middle ages, Jews were persecuted. So Hitler and his regime were simply a culmination of all the hatred over the centuries. It was horrible and sick and wrong, all done in the sake of christianity

Elvis Presley – In The Ghetto Lyrics 19 years ago
okay, I know this song is supposed to be sad, but I just laugh hysterically every time I hear it. I mean, Elvis, singing about the ghetto? Too fucking funny

Hm. It seems that I am one of the few fans of this great local band. They broke up a few months ago, and even of their songwriting lacks the maturity of some other bands, I still listen to them a lot. They had a great sound and enormous potential.

Modest Mouse – The Cold Part Lyrics 19 years ago
This is an awe-inspiring song. The discordance of the music and the repetitiveness of the lyrics were very evocative of suicide for me. I think that most of the song is pretty obvious, but the "So long to this salt soaked part of the world" quote to me brought forth images of barren wasteland that nothing will live or grow in because of the salt (or bad things) sown into the soil. Then the "I stepped down as president of Antarctica
Can't blame me, don't blame me, don’t" line might mean that he wants to relinquish all control of his cold, meaningless life (hence the stepped down as president of antarctica part) and that no one can blame him for his suicide, because if they had been in his position, they would have done the same thing.

I'm probably wrong about this, or reading too far into the lines, but thats just the way I see it....

Also, WarpWhistlee, I dont think that Nate meant it literally when he said that. Even if he did, you probably shouldnt have reacted to it the way you did... it was a bit of an overreaction. But then again, everyone has their own opinion, and I'm not one to judge anyone else's actions, because I'm anything but perfect.

Wow. The lyrics to this song are so graphic, but so beautiful. Its really powerful. I can't even begin to try and understand the song, but for now, I'm okay with just appreciating it.

A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics 19 years ago
Everyone says that they have ruined the song, but I just watched their music video and I started bawling. I study a lot of politics and world issues, and to watch this video just made it all too real for me. The quiet, somber music and the soft, dreamy lyrics contrasted so sharply with the horrifying images onscreen that it really highlighted the differences between the idealism of the lyrics and reality. But what I really loved about the music video was the biting social commentary it had. It showed the effects of the patriotism, greed, and piety of this country on others, especially those in third-world countries and those that we are battling against. I think that it was brave of APC to put out such a controversial video and attempt to alter such an awesome song, but in my eyes, they did a wonderful job of it.

I think that this song is kind of annoying, but good. Which is kind of an odd opinion. Oh well....

Radiohead – Subterranean Homesick Alien Lyrics 19 years ago
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. I would offer my explanation, but it would be pages long and wouldn't make any sense. But I know that there are nights that I lay out on my roof in the cold with my CD player and this song on repeat, and watch the stars for some hope that I, too, one day can see the world as I'd love to see it, from the outside. There are days that the only thing that keeps me alive is the thought of this song.

Radiohead – Let Down Lyrics 19 years ago
Holy crap. Such a good song. "Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel" really got to me. Actually, every line from this song is awesome. But I have a completely different perception of this song. I think it might be about how futile life, and especially relationships are. They may be nice while they last, but they're fleeting, and leave you alone and with nowhere else to go. During the entire ride, you are looking forward to the end destination, but when you arrive, you are disappointed and alone. To me, the growing wings part might express his desire to transcend all of that.

Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that everyone has pretty much covered what I want to say in one way or another, but the way I think of this song is how powerful you feel when you judge others against yourself, but then you realize that by judging others and not yourself, that you are never going to be any better or more powerful than them.

Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics 19 years ago
All of you guys pretty much hit the nail on the head, but the two lines that stuck out at me were "pragmatism not idealism" and "A cat tied to a stick thats driven deep into frozen winter shit" These two lines pretty much embody to me everything that I try not to be. If living the perfect lifestyle means abandoning your ideals for the ideals of others and practicality, then you turn into just another suburban drone. That line reminds me so much of politics now... we won't interfere in the genocide in Sudan because its "inconvenient" and we won't have any real political leaders with real beliefs because its "inconvenient." Pragmatism is crap, yall. If growing up means giving up your ideals, never grow up. I know I'm not.

The line about the cat tied to a stick really stood out because cats are supposed to be intelligent, independant. But by being tied to a stick, all of its independance is gone. The stick being driven deep into winter shit to me symbolizes how we are immersed in our own problems, but too cold and indifferent to anyone but ourselves to make any change in the world.

I know that nothing I just said had anything to do with the meaning of the song as a whole, but I just really wanted to share my feelings on some of the lines in the song

Radiohead – Exit Music (For a Film) Lyrics 19 years ago
I know that everyone else is comparing this song to Romeo and Juliet, but did anyone besides me think that it could possibly be about suicide? The only part that wouldn't make sense is the "pack and get dressed"

The only other way that I can interpret this song is that they are, in fact, running away, but the girl is hesitant, and they end up arguing. The reference to a "chill" could be her giving him the "cold shoulder" and when he makes the comment about a spineless laugh, it may be saying that she doesn't have the strength to stand up for herself...

Radiohead – Airbag Lyrics 19 years ago
Holy crap. I was just posting my last comment, and then thought about the title of the song. "Airbag" could mean someone who's full of hot air. Maybe the lyrics are about someone who is self-centered and egotistical? I dont know... it was just a thought that occured to me...

Even though I agree with most of you guys on your explanations, I have to say that Hobart stole the words right out of my mouth! It was scary how close their explanation was to my immediate reaction to the song. I think that the song is basically about how humans can think that they are "back to save the universe" but are suddenly reminded in some way of the fragility of human life. In this case, Radiohead uses the metaphor of a car crash, but the song isn't necessarily about a car crash, specifically. Although using the metaphor of a car crash adds several new interpretations to the song that wouldn't be there if they had used another. :)

Finch – Worms Of The Earth Lyrics 19 years ago
I read the lyrics to this song before I actually heard it, and I was amazed by them. The lyrics gave me goosebumps just reading them. But then I heard the song. And I have to say that even though Finch is thebestbandonearth, I was dissapointed in the song. It sounded nothing like them. It almost sounded manufactured.
