this song really does remind me of some early mariah that i got down with... the way i like to think of it, theres this guy she wants (almost desperately) but her friends, and everyone keeps telling her it isn't a good idea. so she keeps trying to shut him out... but it doesn't work because every time she sees him, or is near him all she does is bleed love for him. anyway you think of it, her voice is great. we need people back in the spotlight with actual talent. |

honestly i think this song has nothing to do with politics. he may not have had "relations" in a sexual way with any woman or man, but he sure did have relationships, as in friends, and family. from what i have learned about nick drake; his shyness, him being withdrawn from society (which is why this couldn't be about politics- because he wasnt apart of any of it) i think this is kind of a plea to those of which he was close to. im sure he was aware of his problem with withdrawing from people, im sure that was part of his depression. like i said, i think this is a plea to someone, anyone- a sort of "don't let me go, im still here, flawed and all". but also... sadly he thinks he has no second chance. he dosnt think he could do it anyhow. i think alot of his songs are like that, optimistic, but also with an inkling of despair helplessness. |

"And I listen for the whisper Of your sweet insanity while I formulate Denials of your effect on me" ahhh. everytime i hear, or even think about those three particular lines my minds starts screaming (if it had lungs, it would be screaming at the top of them). its like my mind dosn't know how to react to tose lyrics, because it feels the exact same way, about alot of different things... the shit i do, the drugs i take, the guys in my life... this song is all about denials, and losing what you are denying. just for the record, i think its "tornado"... just listen closely guys... i think its awesome how everyone has a diff. perspective on tool and APC songs. its like william blakes poetry... its obviosuly fucked up, and so fucking obscure that the only real explanation is the one the makes the most sense to you. blake even has his own symbolism dictionary (very interesting if you like that sort of stuff...) for example he believed that a worm was a human being at its lowest form,and would use it that way in his poems... check out "the sick rose" really awesome poem about (MAYBE!) sex, and how its the root of all evil. tool and apc need their own symbolism dictionaries. and... im done now ;-) |

I may just be a real sucker for a love song, but thats what i think this song is... maybe not a "love" song, but i feel like its about someone he loves... but can't/won't leave.
