Tool – Forty Six & 2 Lyrics

I'm not saying your idea about the song is wrong, but you seem to be unaware of the theory upon which the title is derived, which is significantly different from your '48 chromosome' interpretation of things...

Steely Dan – Hey Nineteen Lyrics

The 'Colombian' they refer to in the song was actually about marijuana, not cocaine, as popularly believed. Back in the 60's/70's most cocaine still came from Peru, while a whole hell of a lot of marijuana came from Colombia. It wasn't until the mid 80's that Colombia became known for it's cocaine, at least in the United States. |

Cake – Long Line Of Cars Lyrics

This song is about working at a really busy car wash, or at least I used to always listen to this song when I worked at a really busy car wash, because it fits so well. |

Matthew Sweet – Come To California Lyrics

It's pretty much about Matthew's move to L.A. and his apprehensions about it. Great tune, though. Often used to open his concerts because of it's high energy. |

Matthew Sweet – Sick Of Myself Lyrics

I love this song. Who here hasn't had a crush on somebody so bad that the person literally made you sick of yourself? It's so universal I'm surprised it wasn't written decades before... |

Matthew Sweet – Dinosaur Act Lyrics

I think this song that sounds like it's about some sort of relationship is really a veild attack at critics who called Girlfriend "too retro" and "past it's time". It's filled with raw anger and bite. Perfect album opener if there ever was one. |

Matthew Sweet – Dark Secret Lyrics

Since he wrote this for The Craft soundtrack, it could be taken at face value in relation to the movie, but I think it may be deeper than that. I think it's about somebody who manipulates and bends people to their whim with charm rather than any sort of ethereal 'magic'. Somebody who has a grudge against the world and goes around toying with people's minds as a form of revenge. I'm sure we all know somebody like that... |

Matthew Sweet – Day For Night Lyrics

I think it's about somebody who was happy and content with life, so much so that be became jaded and negative. He kind of wonders what he did to deserve to be so happy and fulfilled and is so apprehensive about it all ending that he ends up becoming bitter and cynical. Of course, I could just be talking from experience here ;) |

Matthew Sweet – Super Baby Lyrics

I think it's about being so in love with somebody that you finally feel like you're able to be yourself. That as long as they accept you, forget what everyone else thinks. There's more to it than that, obviously, but that's a feeling I get from it... |

Matthew Sweet – Holy War Lyrics
|
It's about people who justify persecution, death, and destruction as "Holy". The hypocrisy of killing in the name of "God". Not necessarily about just the Jihad, but about how everyone thinks it's ok to tailor things to fit explanations that justify them and how, if there is a "God" or what have you, he'd obviously see through it... |

Matthew Sweet – Giving It Back Lyrics

It's about soembody he once thought was interesting for their 'deep' and 'honest' look into life, but eventually got sick of. When all they ever responded with was negativety, even when faced with positives, he realized it was a waste to try and make anything work with somebody who would never appreciate anything. |

Matthew Sweet – Divine Intervention Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
It's about somebody who's looking at the concept of "God" and doesn't accept it. The lines about "his Divine intervention" are meant to be sort of sarcastic or chastising. How people credit all the good things to "God" and overlook all the horror in the world. |

The Dismemberment Plan – Doing The Standing Still Lyrics
| 20 years ago

Yeah, I know exactly what he means. I recently got accosted after a Grass Roots concert for "Dancing around too much". What!? At a concert!? That's crap. People need to let go of their pretensions, especially at a place where you're supposed to be having fun. I don't want no standing still either... |

The Dismemberment Plan – Memory Machine Lyrics

I think the meaning is pretty obvious. He'd like immortality, but only if they had some way to erase our bad memories so that they wouldn't eventually overwhelm us. Great song. |

The Dismemberment Plan – You Are Invited Lyrics

I pretty much agree with kazbonaut. I think it's about getting the power to go anywhere and do anything and realizing that nothing out there is going to fill you and that everyone out there is pretty much in the same position you are. To me, it's actually a lot more hopeless than most people interpret it to be... |

The Dismemberment Plan – Girl O'Clock Lyrics

I think it's song is about somebody who recently left a relationship and hasn't had sex since. He's not exactly addicted, he just hasn't had it for so long it consumes his every thought at the moment. |
