sounds like the end of the world. |

Animal Collective – My Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
oops. wrong song... |
Animal Collective – My Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Venture my way into the dark where we can sweat One takes one by the hand Let them crawl into the logs that dam Brown jeans the hue of their path Excited and screamin' their voices grow wild And rise with the birds mating up in the pines Down to puddles that breathe, covered by leaves With mud they'll make prints on their backs Will it be just like they're dreaming? Will it be just like I'm dreaming? Will it be just like they're dreaming? Will it be just like I'm dreaming? If they're awake till the dawn, well we won't Fret that they don't have our eye The ghosts came crowding around and then I woke, you slept there on your side From our window, two lanterns draw signs on the night And light our two shadows, I watch with delight Will I want them to be who they will be Or to be more like their dad? Will it be just like they're dreaming? Will it be just like I'm dreaming? Will it be just like they're dreaming? Will it be just like I'm dreaming? When influence is threatened Maybe I should let them Maybe we should let them And I have a question: Are you also frightened? No one should call you a dreamer Not now! www.animalcollective.org |
Animal Collective – Also Frightened Lyrics | 14 years ago |
haha. I spent 20 mins figuring out those exact lyrics...and another 10 on the 4th line...only to find someone else had already posted them... I can't decipher it... |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Devil's Waitin' Lyrics | 14 years ago |
these lyrics are wrong, there are probably 99-100% correct. a few words i'm not sure about. out on the corner with cast iron blood 10,000 no more with hearts on their own they say i might die and i maybe cold i may have no jesus, i may have no soul in prison i hear there's time to be good but the first thing you see is the last thing you should well i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life laying here is the life i've been told yeah i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life out here is the life i've been sold they say theres a path soon when i'll stand to judge but the devil's a-waiting with christ like a son when the look comes your way, you best say was i for the reasons you hold give reasons to die the callings impatient with a cause never won but the last one to say it may last through the flood well i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life in here is the life i've been sold yeah i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life out here is the life i've been told bridge I'm born and weary but lifes just begun and i've run from the reasons and roamed to the gun and they say i'm the killer and thy will be done and the doors won't be open when i finally become and i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life out here is the life i've been sold yeah i've seen the battle and i've seen the war and the life in here is the life i've been told bridge falling fast but we've no tears you know our lord's gonna meet us there we pray our lord's gonna meet us there you know our lord's gonna meet us there falling fast but we've no cares we know our lord's gonna meet us there we pray our lord's gonna meet us there |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Devil's Waitin' Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i've been very impressed with what i've heard from this band. this is one of their best songs. reminds me of dylan. this and mercy are very cool in that way. |
Grizzly Bear – On a Neck, On a Spit Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Each day, I spend it with me now All my time, I spend it with me now But each day I spend it with you now All my time, I spend it with you now But out here, no one can hear me Out hear no one can hear me" it's a small change but it's accurate. he says "I", it's just very low and fast. |
The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 15 years ago |
reminds me of a really great U2 song. this album is pretty good. |
Nada Surf – Bacardi Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this band is almost great. sadly, almost. catchy, but too sentimental lyrically. |
Nada Surf – Hyperspace Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"there is no peace, there's only sun". Makes me want to go outside. |
Cake – World Of Two Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the whole album Comfort Eagle is incredible. Never too much, never too little. |
Cursive – Big Bang Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What I really like about this song and this album, is the timing of it. During a period in American history where many people question science because of religion being in certain large slots of power, and influence, it calls out intelligent design, which is largely a failing plan of the religious extremeists to change the education system the way they'd like. I went to a catholic school, and never learned anything about it and I'm glad I was graduating a year before they started this big argument. It probably won't ever be approved to be taught because it holds no water and has so many close ties to religion. Many public schools wont even allow God in their national anthems. So... Not to debate this issue as I do not know for sure what the laws are, but intelligent design just wont happen. Anyways, the song is pretty profound, and the music is just fucking top notch. I like everything about this CD. Domestica is still my favorite, but I appreciate Cursive not falling into the cracks on this one. |
Joan of Arc – You Can't Change Your Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
unconscious mind? maybe? what we think and feel, we can't really change all that much. it takes a lot to really change a person, and even then, there is a core that remains the same. |
Joan of Arc – Miss Cat Piss and Peppermint Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I picture a lonely women with nothing in her life to really live for. She tries to look normal to her neighbors, but her personality isn't accepted, and she eventually becomes the neighborhood crazy lady, with a ton of cats, who throws shit at little kids who walk on her grass. She couldn't deal with society so she went insane. At least my take on it. |
Joan of Arc – Eventually, All at Once Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is pretty simple, yet not simple. I think thats the meaning. Is understanding not understanding? Life is like that. We think we know something, but its just a perspective. Everyone is right, everyone is wrong. There is no right or wrong. Take it for what it is, the moment. |
Tool – Third Eye Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I spent some time reading everyone's thoughts on this song. Most of them are good, just all different. This is the beauty of this song, and many artists like Tool. So for my opinion: I see the Third Eye as a gateway to understanding yourself. Whether you experience this through drugs or meditation, when you start to truely look inside your actions, thoughts, criticisms, feelings, whatever they may be, you are able to understand the futile nature of life. On the other hand, without your experiences, you are nothing. You will not have the ability to question without a reason to do so. I really do not know what will be ahead for myself, but what I can see is that whatever it will be, will shape me however I let it. The third eye is the ability to let go of the confines of society; the ability to realize that everything is relative to your position. All information is valid, disagreement aside. Just listen to every new idea, enjoy the fact that it exists, and keep moving forward. |
Minus the Bear – Hooray Lyrics | 19 years ago |
they've really fallen into their own style. if they wern't already pretty unique, they've perfected it. they'll keep moving along though, im already waiting for the next release. the internet has spoiled us all, but you fuckers better be buying this record when it actually releases. its the least we can all do for enjoying it early. |
Minus the Bear – Pachuca Sunrise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
that guitar is brilliant...i cant wait for Sep 22nd. |
Dredg – Matroshka Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is terrible. even if it wasnt dredg, i still would hate it. this album is dissapointing to say the least and especially from the creators of such amazing music. the lyrics were never great but why make them worse...they're now empty and horribly written. some songs are good, but they failed to progress and make anything origional. its just not the same band. |
The Suicide File – Now Lie In It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
the message is cool but the music just fucking kills. they, at the risk of sound cliche, "fucking rock to all hell." Im railed right at the moment so that might have some kind of effect. |
Incubus – Agoraphobia Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is about apathy and fighting it. everything seems so horrible so people think they cant change anything so they sit on their ass and smoke pot all day. i suffer from a mild case of this at different times. anyway, its just about finding the better things in life like love and pleasure and using that to push yourself to not be depressed and go out and try and fix shit you dont like. good song. |
Elliott Smith – The White Lady Loves You More Lyrics | 19 years ago |
the "white lady" reference is probably about herion now that you mention King's Crossing, the part right before that line in King's Crossing is talking about herion so I think its probably pretty on point. I think the meaning i had fits pretty well but everyone can have something different, thats what is so amazing about his songs. |
Further Seems Forever – Light Up Ahead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
these lyrics are fucking terrible. they have no depth. FSF have been going down hill since the Moon Is Down. the lyrics on that album were pretty damn good. How to Start A Fire was also pretty decent. this album just lacks everything FSF had on the last two. its just rehashed riffs and shitty lyrics. i'll wait for the next album, maybe they'll redeam themselves. this is what keeps happening to bands now, From Autumn to Ashes, Sparta and Thrice all did the same thing. they all completely fucked up their sound by trying to fit into a more commercial market place. they're all starting to sound the same. |
Elliott Smith – The Biggest Lie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i like the reference in the song about his name. i dont think most people know his real name isn't Elliott. this song is probably a real event in his life. i think its talking about someone who didn't really care for him, only his money/success/what he represents/his character not who he really was, only the image his music and his life portrays. they never really tryed to get to know him. someone he probably met after he gained some fame. i dunno, thats just my take on it. |
Elliott Smith – The White Lady Loves You More Lyrics | 19 years ago |
it seems like it is about being in love with someone who is addicted to some sort of drug, maybe specifically herion in this case. being traded in for the drug. i believe this song is written from the perspective of the person who was in love with him while he was going through his addiction. pretty deep. |
Elliott Smith – Good to Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
someone he was with whom he never really knew, i guess she haunts his memories, shes someone who he thinks might have the answers he's looking for but kind of faded away and left. he wonders if she was the person he imagined. |
Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics | 19 years ago |
its really describes how people feel when they are depressed, drunk on it, how no one really gets it and gives their sad stories and "helpful" advise but you know they still dont really get it. |
Elliott Smith – Alphabet Town Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song seems like its about two people who are looking for love but are not in love with each other, they are just together because they both get what they want out of the relationship, however fake it is, they never really know each other, but they dont care cause they are getting what they want. |
Elliott Smith – Satellite Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i dont think its really about someone lying to you. i think its about someone who is confused about what they want in life, searching for love but not knowing how to make a relationship work to get that love. they are a very interesting person but are so afride to let go and achieve what they desire. its hard for the people who throw themselves out there but end up falling on their ass with their heart in their hands when that person cant open up to them. "you're a question mark coming after people you watched collide" |
Elliott Smith – Coming Up Roses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"you cold white brother riding yr blood like spun glass in sore eyes" "you cold white brother alive in yr blood spinning in the night sky " both of those lines are obviously about drugs and the glassy eyes and tunnel vision are perfectly written. those are amazing to me. perfect imagery. |
Elliott Smith – Single File Lyrics | 19 years ago |
im not sure that this song is about drugs at all. there arent really any obvious references to it so it leads me to believe that he's talking about people trying to write out their pain. trying to materialize it to something useful. all it does is bring up the pain to the front sometimes. where his music wasn't always helpful to express himself. maybe sometimes it made things worse, but he keeps at it because its like a drug. it gives him the high of happiness but over time it may have ended up killing him...making things worse. like a drug. |
Elliott Smith – Clementine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i think this song is about being with someone you dont really love but cant admit it because you dont want to hurt them. and how the other person knows that you may not really, truely love them. its sad for both people. you still care about them but you dont really love them. |
Elliott Smith – Christian Brothers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
everyone said pretty much the same thing, bigeasy put it pretty well. how people cant understand and their fake sympathy and unwillingness to actually help you by doing what they should by listening, and only trying to push you off to professionals. like degrading your problems to the need of prescription drugs or a therapist to help it, when the person really needs love and someone to try and understand them. |
Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics | 19 years ago |
actually, im gonna say more.... this captures young love perfectly. "Goddamn the black night, With all its foul temptations, I've become what I've always hated, When I was with you there. We looked like giants, In the back of my grey sub-compact, Fumbling to make contact, As the others slept inside." are great at describing how the idea of sex in a car is so cliche and seems empty of actual love but in the situation he was in, it wasnt like that. great great imagery again. |
Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics | 19 years ago |
there isnt really too much depth to the lyrics, but they capture the mood of the situation and basically being a kid nearly perfect. great imagery in here. his lyrics have gotten pretty precise on this album by the way. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Champagne from a Paper Cup Lyrics | 19 years ago |
no one has made an actual in-depth review of these lyrics...they are all focusing on the most apparent aspects of them.... basically what i see the song as is a representation of his view of a relationship turned bad. Missmoo was partly right in saying that he wasn't actually drunk or at a party. these things may have happened to him, but thats besides the point, they are being used as metaphors in this instance. they represent his emotions and his thoughts. lets go line by line.... "i think i'm drunk enough to drive you home now" i think this describes how he's at a point where he wishes the other person misery or whatever, everyone experiences this after a bad break up initally anyway. "i'll keep my mouth kept shut from under lock and key, that's rusted firm, no lie 'cause all these conversations wind on and on" someone else had a similar idea in that he is talking about how everything is kind of blurred and his mind keeps wandering back to the relationship and how you sometimes pine over it for awhile, thinking about what you did wrong or whos fault it was etc etc. and he's try to avoid it, all the conversations with himself, in his head. "drinking champagne from a paper cup is never quite the same and every sip's moving through my eyes and up into my brain" i think he's describing the misery of loving someone that doesnt deserve it, "champagne from a paper cup is never quite the same" = expensive behind cheap, meaning he's taking love from someone who isn't really giving it. but the feeling makes him drunk and keeps him thinking on it, trying to find meaning in the relationship he's spending so much time disecting. "at half past two; about time to leave 'cause the dj's playing rhythm and blues a sad-sorry state, stutter step to those slammin' grooves as i'm waiting around for you" i think the last few lines describe his disgust for all this shit he's causing himself, all the pain that is mostly internal and how its cliche to him almost, like the overused, so common inner depression. it's shit he wants to get out of cause he's better than it. he's basically saying he hates how he is still in love with this person. trying to leave it all behind but still feeling that emptyness you do when you are rejected. so like azeael85 said, the message "trying to fit something meaningful, or with substance, into a shitty container." to fit what im talking about, more specifically, looking for love in something that doesnt hold it. the relationship he was in was a paper cup, champagne is the love. thats just one take on the song. i think it holds up pretty well. anyone else have any more ideas? |
Elliott Smith – A Distorted Reality Is Now a Necessity to Be Free Lyrics | 19 years ago |
he had a chorus on the word "fuck"...thats so awesome. |
Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell Lyrics | 19 years ago |
its sad to think of what it would have been if he had lived to finish the intended double album... |
MxPx – Quit Your Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i dont even like this band, i wont say they suck just because it doesnt matter what i think about them, its not going to change anyone opinion..these posts always turn into arguments, why not give your ideas on the meanings of the songs, since that is kind of the point. this song doesnt really have any deep meaning so i doubt it will spark too much conversation, but whatever... |
Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
it was unfinished, it was set to be a double album if you read any info on it. it was compiled by his friends and family so it wasnt exactly what he would have made. its still amazing, but just not as an album, it has some of his greatest songs, this one included. |
Elliott Smith – Everything Reminds Me of Her Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song is probably about a drug addiction, but what he's good at is making a relationship into a metaphore about certain addictions (alcohol/drugs/whatever). he's just a really great song writer...it doesnt really matter what it actually means, its what people get out of it. drugs or relationship, its an amazing song. |
Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song reads like he has a gun to his head. its so sad and deep. Elliott Smith is the most talented song writer ive ever heard, and i love the Beatles. this man was brilliant. yes, he was heavily influenced by the Beatles, but he did it better in my opinion. everyone will probably disagree with me, but i find Elliott a lot more interesting and entertaining. From A Basement On The Hill has the best songs he's ever written, sadly the album isnt as strong as it should be because of his death. if he had lived, this album would have been absolutely stunning, if it already isnt to some of you. |
Thrice – Cold Cash And Colder Hearts Lyrics | 19 years ago |
why do you people feel the need to post the meaning of a song that is so blatently obviously? theres maybe 2 directions this song could take and both are pretty clear. just stop it. thrice were never amazing to begin with, but i like Illusion of Safety. the lyrics are so much better on that album. here, they sound so contrived and unpoetic. they deserted art for a message. only a great artist can balance both. he had done so on Illusion of Safety...he dumbed it down for idiots like you people who read these lyrics and think they're so fucking profound. |
AFI – Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
why does everyone praise Sing the Sorrow...its just so bad. forget all the shit about them selling out or what not. the album is just shitty. if their next album is good, then so be it, but this one is just shit. they tryed to expand their horizons and it didnt work. it sounds cliche and lame. their lyrics are all completely contrived anyway. in my opinion i think he's just bullshitting people with them to sell albums. its all the same. cause everyone knows art is hard and if you arnt in pain, theres no use for it. i'll only give him credit for the ability to put words together, their meaning is bullshit. whatever...AFI needs to stick to what they are good at. Art of Drowning wasnt too bad, Black Sails was good, and everything before was great punk rock. stick to what you're good at. so many bands try to expand and it doesnt work because they just arnt that talented. its like a punk rock midlife crisis. they all feel the need to get recognition for their music from other musicians. im rambleing now, but you all get my general opinion. |
Green Day – My Generation (The Who cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
its a cover...stop putting covers in the lyrics sections. |
Green Day – Knowledge (Operation Ivy cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
he's friends with the band/Rancid now. and this is a cover as you all have said.....why is this in green day's section. stop putting cover songs in here. |
Green Day – I Fought the Law (The Crickets cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
its a Clash song, why the hell is this even in their lyrics section. why do people insist on putting cover songs in here. nothing has changed except maybe the band's take on the song, the lyrics are still the same. |
Green Day – Burnout Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song isnt that deep people...green day isnt that deep people. i like them just as much as you all probably do..but please. lets just use this site to read the lyrics and not put how much we all love each song...no one really cares. im sorry if im being a little bit bitchy, but their lyrics are not that insightful. try Elliott Smith, Death Cab For Cutie, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young or someone else if you want really deep lyrics. |
Green Day – Holiday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
the comparison to hitler isnt overused since ive never really heard anyone use it before...but its not that impressive of a comparison, its cliche without being cliche, if you know what i mean. but this album is interesting...its neither bad nor good, i cant decide yet. its still punk music, but the protest thing is more subtle than most, which is better. green day are still catchy as hell though. |
