You guys are all wrong!!! This song was written by pete about Keith Moon, the drummer. I'm reading his autobiography at the moment, and Pete felt compelled to write it when he met keith for the first time and saw tha things he did - the booze, the birds, the pills, the madness!. The one line he built the song around was "I hope i die before i get old" which keith once said to him as an off-hand remark. That man was a legend!!!!

Interesting reading all the stuff above. I've never heard of this song being about julian lennon before now. I heard that it was written about John's aunt Jude, who looked after him while he starteed the beatles. The song is a thank you for giving him somewhere to live and providing for him as he struggled as a musician |

Darkgamer hasn't a clue. LotR was concocted in tolkiens head while fighting in WW2, and was written soon after, published in the fifties. There is definitely a LotR reference in there. "Theres a feeling i get, when i look to the west" i think, is about the grey havens when frodo is leaving middle earth. he doesn't want to leave the shire and his friends, but when he knows his wounds will be healed in the wesy with the elves, his "spirit is crying for leaving". |
