The Decemberists – The Bagman's Gambit Lyrics 15 years ago
He says he works" for the government and in a stall off the National Mall" Eh.
yeah, pretty much a sweet song. I've heard it's good to listen to when you're on a good trip.

Coldplay – 42 Lyrics 15 years ago
Yeah, but "40" is because it's psalms 40 and it actually DOES have a meaning.

I've wondered if it has anything to do with Hitchhiker's Guide... i kind of wish it did and listening to it makes me think of it... because it's talking about heaven and wondering if there's more and really that's what the question in Hitchhiker's Guide is: we want to know the meaning of life, the universe and everything....

eh, i don't know.

Bob Dylan – You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go Lyrics 15 years ago
He and Sara were separated long before 77 even if that's when they got divorced. It is indeed a "break-up" album to the extreme.

This song is about Ellen Bernstein who also had homes in Honolulu and San Francisco. Not necessarily an affair that you would consider scandalous from what I know. It was more like she was there when he needed someone just to be there. Apparently she spend a lot of time at The Farm in Minnesota during the summer of... 73 (?) (i forget right now...) just being a good friend (with benefits??). But then Dylan tossed her aside like he does with everyone...

James Taylor – Our Town Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was written by Randy Newman for Cars if I'm correct.
I love this song a lot. It makes me sad about really any small towns that are dying.

The Conversation – Cellar Door Lyrics 17 years ago
I couldn't figure out anything about this song for a really long time. I just didn't know what to think about the lyrics. Now, after listening to it over and over, I think that it's about an odd friendship. A girl or guy is in love with this guy (the songwriter, or the POV of the song), but it's clearly not reciprocated. In all honesty, the singer is getting sick of the person. The first couple lines, "Haven't seen your face in weeks, and I don't miss what it does to me." It seems like the guys is sick of being guilty for not feeling the same way as the person who's in love.

this is a beautiful song.

feeling lucky because you feel weak? i think i get it.
i live in minnesota, and i get it. winter is just depressing.

Johnny Cash – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song because to me it's a just a "f-you" kind of song. like, "you expect these things out of me, but i just can't be that person."

i love it. a lot.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – The Line Lyrics 18 years ago
for some reason, even though i know it's wrong i still think the lyrics goes:
there is no story left to tell you
i've no wisdom to pass on.

oh well. i love this song though. kind of reminds me of a friend that i try to comfort despite all the times he's hurt me... it hurts to love him.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Complicated Situation Lyrics 18 years ago
this song first caught my attention just because i liked its sound, but then i looked at the lyrics and it caught me for an entirely new reason.
when i look at the lyrics it reminds me of images of the beslan school #1 terrorist attack in russia. and it makes me sad.

U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics 18 years ago
my friend just came back from bible camp (or whatever the hell she wants to call it) and she said that they showed a clip from a concert (i'm thinking the elevation tour live from boston). they were teaching it that the song was based on heaven. i on the other hand believe it's about ethiopia and/or the desert (mojave more than likely).

see, and that's what's cool about the songs... it's all perception.

Eels – I Need Some Sleep Lyrics 19 years ago
anyone ever try the rubberband therapy thing?? you put a rubberband around your wrist and everytime you say/do/think something that you're not supposed to you pull the rubberband and let it go?
that's what i'm doing right now. it really reminds me of this song because of the whole, "you just gotta let it go."
i have all these friends telling me that i just have to let something/someone go, and i'm even telling myself this, but i just cant... rubberband.
so anyway. this song to me is definately about that someone/something you just can't seem to get out of your thoughts... sleep and (in my case) rubberband therapy might help...

Wilco – Spiders (Kidsmoke) Lyrics 19 years ago
oh man...i have a strange story behind me discovering this song. so i heard this awesome long song on kvsc (a college radio station in MN) and i was like awesome, but they have such long sets and i was never in my car when i heard the dj say who it was. i just loved this song from the first time i heard it, incompletely of course. i won a ghost is born from another radio station that is less college... but anyway i didn't listen to it v. well... only the song #s that my sister told me were worth it.
about two months after i got the cd i heard spiders on kvsc again and this time i DID hear it announced. i was like, 'no way!' i've been in love w/ this song for months and i finally find out that i have the cd. i'm such a moron. anyway. this song makes me v. focused for some reason or another.
sorry about the stupid story. just shows how stupid i've been.

U2 – One Step Closer Lyrics 19 years ago
to me it sounds like it about slipping away from the world and slowing down...

one of my favorite lines from the albums which encompasses a great philosophical theory of mine ...
"a heart that hurts is a heart that beats"

submissions
U2 – Yahweh Lyrics 19 years ago
"take this heart, and make it break" is the best line on the album next to.
"do you see the beauty inside of me.
what happened to the beauty i had inside of me"
-city of blinding lights
or
"i'm not broke but you can see the cracks
you can make me perfect again"
-all because of you

this is a very simple gospel song to me... although recently i have lost my faith, moreover i have been losing it for a long time, but one event made me think again about blind faith. but no matter, this is a gospel song in its greatest form
(the other song with broken hearts is 'crumbs...' i believe.... "you broke every heart thinking every heart mends")

Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now Lyrics 19 years ago
i think it's a coming of age song... when you're young (i don't know if i buy into the whole child thing), naive and in love for the first time it feels like you're a child w/ all the happiness that a child can feel, but as the love grows old and falls apart you can see love from both sides. the young love and the old...

Sarah McLachlan – Do What You Have To Do Lyrics 19 years ago

i really, really love this song. it's just beautful

i agree paolita. my favorite lines from the album are, "Can you see the beauty inside of me?
What happened to the beauty I had inside of me."
maybe...i haven't decided yet.
city of blinding lights was the first song on the album to really POP out at me, you know? i just think it's a beautiful song... i have a question about a line or twho though (and the weird thing is that i thought i already wrote this somewhere...) when it says, "They’re advertising in the skies, For people like us." what does that mean? 'cause it can be taken a couple different ways

as for the whole unos, dos, tres, catorce v. once, doce, trece, catorce... watch bono count off on different videos.
i've heard the steve lilywhite thing. (albums 1, 2, 3 & 14) it makes sense alot more than some ideas. as for the whole 'drink involved' it makes me laugh because it very well may be true too. (and is it just be or did i count 17 albums... dang. which ones 'don't count'

U2 – Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own Lyrics 19 years ago
dang, i hate when that happens. anyway. i'm starting really to savor the lyrics more... and just because i know that's it's really about his father doesn't mean i can't twist it into something else that makes it more special for me. you know? anyway, it seems to really solidify the relationship with one of my friends
I don’t need… I don’t need to hear you say
That if we weren’t so alike
You’d like me a whole lot more

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don’t have to go it alone

i would really like for people to understand this line. it seems that way too many people are TRYING to go through life all alone when there are peple that care about them. anyway i'm done ranting... for now anyway

The Moody Blues – Nights In White Satin Lyrics 19 years ago
all i can think of is a story that a friend told me... she was at the doctor's office and for some reason (i can't remember, and i don't think it's important anyway...) the doctor said to her, "Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right. and which is an illusion?" she said, "wow, that's great! is it t.s. elliot?" and the doctor says (obviously), "no, moody blues." i just love that story. and i love this song. admittedly is one of the only moody blues songs that i really appreciate.

i heard this song for the v. first time today. i started listening to it when it says, "grandad came from norway..." i really enjoyed listening to the part i heard because it has to do with minnesota (sorta, at least)... i thought it was kind of goofy, but then thinking about it, i guess it's just ironic and trying to make a small point. eh, what do i know...?

U2 – Vertigo Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah... it kind of reminds me of elevation, too, actually.

it definately has something to do with playing live and the rush that it gives.
"Your love is teaching me how
How to kneel
Kneel"
--> about revering an audience perhaps?

"But you give me something I can feel
Feel"
---> another audience reference. him being attached to what's going on.
