When in Rome – The Promise Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, I'm only the fourth person to check this out after hearing the song at the end of "Napoleon Dynamite" and comment on it. You know that's why you're here if you're under the age of 25.

Shawn Smith – Wrapped In My Memory Lyrics 19 years ago
The first line of the second chorus is missing.
Also, the final line of the second chorus should read "I'll never forget your part."
The last line should read, "And you're wrapped in my memory like gold"

Great song. It was the closing song on episode 5x12 of "The Sopranos" -- "Long Term Parking."

Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
Ana, I'm not suggesting that's my interpretation of the song, but I'll try to answer your question:
I don't think it is positive, but it is realistic. "We must have died a long, long time ago" could connote (if you accept the Jesus theory behind the song) could mean that the innocence of the human race died a long, long time ago... The concept of original sin; Christ was sent to Earth and died for the sins of all humanity.

Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
If you're going to interpret the man who sold the world to be Jesus, why must his death on the cross be thought of as NOT dying for everyone's sins?

"We never lost control" could mean that Jesus was wholly aware of his sacrifice, and that God had this plan for him the entire time.

Jay-Z – Allure Lyrics 19 years ago
It's all about how Jay has pushed the limits in his personal life... the "allure" of the dangerous, referencing James Dean's death early in his young career due to the same allure. No matter how he tries to keep away from those enticing dangers, they continue to haunt him.

Jay-Z – My 1st Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Hov's goodbye and ultimate reflection on the rap game.
It's essentially the keys to the kingdom -- the steps one must take to master rap and achieve the success that Jay-Z had... put as much heart and work into your latest work as you did when you first started. Biggie's quote at the beginning sums it up quite nicely.

Jay-Z – Encore Lyrics 19 years ago
Quite simply, Hov is trying to gauge how well his fans and music critics understand what he has put forth in his career. He's making his case for consideration as the greatest rapper of our age, asking for an encore from us, the audience -- trying to make us realize how we will miss him, but how there are those following in his stead (Kanye West, etc) that we should send our attention to.

Jay-Z – 99 Problems Lyrics 19 years ago
The point of this song is the point out the troubles Jay-Z faces near the end of his career, the height of his success... but it seems, at the end, he is thanking the fact that the basic stuff -- having a girl -- has been taken care of.

Some people want to see him dead.
Music writers often don't recognize the extent of the depth of his rhymes, and too many can't relate to his financial worries as a youngster.
This won't stop him from putting his voice out there, even if he gets coopted by the major media to make a profit.

When faced with a situation such as being pulled over by the police, Jay-Z sticks to his guns. When faced with racial profiling, Hova is unfazed and knows the game being played.

At the same time, Jay-Z has to contend with critics in and around his industry that will vocalize but never follow through, and if Jay-Z reacted, he would be put through the same criminal/media debacle that Puff Daddy did.

Still, at the end of the day, Jay-Z can live his life with his girl... and once he leaves the rap game, these 99 problems disappear.
