Pink Floyd – Scream Thy Last Scream Lyrics 22 years ago
This is one hell of a masterpiece....

Pink Floyd – Nobody Home Lyrics 22 years ago
Some of the lyrics make me think of Syd Barrett. Waters has said that the 'elastic bands' line is an allusion to the great man.

The Beatles – When I'm Sixty-Four Lyrics 22 years ago
If I could go back in time and stop one Beatle tune from being written, it would have to be this...

Roger Waters – The Bravery Of Being Out Of Range Lyrics 22 years ago
the 'old man' always makes me think of Ronald Reagan, for some reason.

ZZ Top – Backdoor Love Affair Lyrics 22 years ago
This is about banging a married woman up the shitter so as not to get her pregnant

submissions
The Stone Roses – Elizabeth My Dear Lyrics 22 years ago
This is about blowing Queen Elizabeth's head off and not caring about the consequences

The Stone Roses – Waterfall Lyrics 22 years ago
Ian Brown said in an interview that this is about a girl whose fed up with everything, drops an acid and goes to Dover. What would Vera Lynn make of that?

submissions
The Stone Roses – Going Down Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a song blatantly about oral sex! It's mainly about giving it, but the last verse is about receiving. And the girl in the song gives dynamite head, it would seem.

Joy Division – Atrocity Exhibition Lyrics 22 years ago
On "Disorder" Curtis says 'I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand'. In this he says 'take my hand and I'll show you what was and will be'. I wouldn't have employed him as a tour guide, but he would have got a job @ Vermilion Sands, I reckon

Joy Division – She's Lost Control Lyrics 22 years ago
I heard it was about a girl that either Curtis knew personally or had been told of who had really bad epilepsy, and one day she had a serious grand mal attack and died.

Simon and Garfunkel – For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her Lyrics 22 years ago
The live version of this track makes the studio one a complete non-entity.

Roger Waters – Perfect Sense, Part I Lyrics 22 years ago
The monkey with the bone in his hand reminds me of the opening scenes to "2001: A Space Odyssey". I read somewhere that Waters wanted to use some sound bytes from the film but Stanley Kubrick refused or something, and the backwards message @ the beginning is an unflattering message to the director. I think the song is about a monkey seeing how f***ed up the world is or something, like the aliens that appear in the 'Amused to Death' track. I'm not sure really. All I know is that I went for six months listening to this song about 50 times a day. I was hypnotised. A similar thing happened with 'Comfortably Numb'!

Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics 22 years ago
I reckon it's about wanting to bang some prime beaver. The riff is Zeppelin's best. John Paul Jones wrote it but, having said that, only Page could have launched it into the ROCK stratosphere. A fine way to open the greatest album of all time!

Led Zeppelin – Heartbreaker Lyrics 22 years ago
I used to think that the 'Annie' in the song was a prostitute or something, but now I'm not so sure. Either way, she is some kind of sexual predator that Mr. Plant finds it hard to break away from. The song is easily one of their best. The riff is perfect. Anyone else notice how Zeppelin's best riffs sound like orgasms? "Black Dog" and "The Ocean" spring to mind. For a direct and frankly appalling rip-off of this song, look no further than 'Strange Kind of Woman' by the decidedly average Deep Purple.

Pink Floyd – Have a Cigar Lyrics 22 years ago
Roger Waters had/has a very cynical and bitter sense of humour, which is great. I think it's quite funny that the whole punk movement despised Pink Floyd for being old dinosaurs or whatever they saw them as. The Floyd were a whole lot more subtle than the punks in saying f*** off to the System they were meant to symbolise.

Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V) Lyrics 22 years ago
Roger Keith Barrett (Syd) was an utter genius. I would like to say that this song celebrates that, but it doesn't. Waters wrote it (the lyrics, that is) and his feelings towards Syd seem somewhat ambivalent. Fair enough, the old painter was a somewhat ambivalent mummy's boy chap, but sod it. Syd was god. Waters had to kick him out of the band because he was unworkable. This is one of the few Floyd tunes to rival his solo work! Syd is Emperor, and long live that chappy-wappy!

Pink Floyd – Arnold Layne Lyrics 22 years ago
Knicker nicker Arnold Layne!!

Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb Lyrics 22 years ago
This song works on so many levels, it is frightening. The guitar solos are to die for. Pink Floyd rule. If you were hypnotised by this song, it has evidently struck a chord which you will nevr be able to erase. The Floyd are perfect.

U2 – Ultraviolet (Light My Way) Lyrics 22 years ago
The first few lines are just foreplay to the classic U2 guitar sound which breaks to start this melodic classic.

U2 – One Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a perfect song. It is off the most lyrically perfect album of the 90s (after Jeff Buckley's "Grace", of course)
and, disturbingly, made Axl Rose cry the first time he heard it! That is a bit dream-robbingly-confusing, but Hell, there hasn't been that perfection for a long, long time.

The Beatles – Something Lyrics 22 years ago
Duuuuuuuuude, Bob Dylan is the most over-rated songwriter ever! Yes, he is good: I will allow you your moment. And it is irrelevant as to whether he can sing or play (which, after 40 years, he can't). He is a good songwriter. And I stress good. He is by no means ahead of the Beatles, nor is he ahead of Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Lou Reed, Jerry Cantrell, Jeff Buckely, and anyone else you can name, You have the same syndrome Nirvana fans have when they say Kurt Cobain was a genius. The guy wrote good songs, but is not the genius everyone makes him out to be. He was surrounded by far superior contemporaries, so get over it! DYLAN WAS (AND IS) AVERAGE IN COMPARISON TO THE ARTISTS YOU THINK HE IS SUPERIOR TO! You have ears, don't just hear, LISTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The Beatles – Come Together Lyrics 22 years ago
Randomness is the art of tripping. John wrote this song to take the piss. He was probably sick of fans misinterpreting his songs.

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 22 years ago
The finger on the trigger reference to me is obviously about a woman's clitoris ie. in control of "setting her off". The National Trust lyric means that the Beatles shit would be treasured by all.

Simon and Garfunkel – Overs Lyrics 22 years ago
This is about being in a relationship/marriage and acknowledging that the magic has long since vanished.

Simon and Garfunkel – April Come She Will Lyrics 22 years ago
This is about how a seemingly perfect relationship disintegrates and mirrors the seasons as it does so. It's very English, in fact. Did Paul Simon write this one in England?

Happy Mondays – Loose Fit Lyrics 22 years ago
Probably something to do with the baggy jeans fashion of the early nineties. The 'gonna buy an airforce base' is probably for an unofficial rave. Or perhaps, they were just off there faces on Ecstasy and Temazepam.

James – Sit Down Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this is about an old LSD master comforting a novice in the ways of tripping and how to overcome the awkward feelings that a bad trip brings

submissions
The Beatles – You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Lyrics 22 years ago
I think it's about being in love with a girl you can't have, or someone you can't have. All the 'she' references in the song obviously point to a hetero kind of love, but you can see it in a homo way if you wish. This is why the Beatles surpass all boundaries. Not bad for four scallies with a Dylan album on repeat! Dylan is over-rated and Lennon wiped the floor with him in just over two minutes.

submissions
Mötley Crüe – Too Young To Fall In Love Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a continuation of "Too Fast For Love", which is just about getting laid as much as possible. "Too Young" is about being in a destructive relationship and wanting to return to that beaver-banging lifestyle. The 'Not yet a man...' line is very honest

submissions
Leonard Cohen – Avalanche Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this is about someone involved in a relationship who resents his partner for loving him, or something like that. He can't seem to trust her or believe her and hates her love. That's why it's a fitting opening to the "Songs of Love and Hate" album!

Suzanne Vega – Luka Lyrics 22 years ago
Suzanne Vega has actually said in interviews that the song is about a little girl being abused, but the language used in the song seems too mature for a child, and more like an older woman. A battered wife, perhaps. I think it works both ways, though.
