Nick Drake – Northern Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
In reference to the "brighten my northern sky" line, I ran across a quote in a magazine once from a Josh Ritter song that went something like "all of the other girls here are stars, you are the Northern Lights" and everytime I've heard this song after that, it's what I thought Nick Drake was saying except 25 years earlier

Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics 19 years ago
Yea I think it actually does say "at all" not "at home", but to me that means that all of his fans hold him so highly like hes a genius or god but hes just saying that hes a normal guy who happens to be a rock star. The phallic symbol part could just as easily apply to a straight male as it would to a gay male, but then again why couldn't this song be about both or all three arguments(rockstar, drugs, closet homosexuality) all of the elements are there.

Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics 19 years ago
After reading all of these posts I still think this song is about being a rockstar who is constantly touring. The first verse explains how hes preparing to go on tour. In the chorus he talks about how it will take him a long time to realize that he's become someone different than who he was at home and how his family and friends envisioned him. The title rocket man is interesting too because when I think of an astronaut I don't initially think "rocket man", I think spaceman or something along those lines so I think its possible he intentionally used the word rocket to imply that he would burn up. Actually Neil Young once said that it's better to "burn out" than to fade away. The part about kids alludes to various children of famous musicians who never really had full-time parents like the case of Julian Lennon. I think this is one of those most significant pieces of evidence to the rockstar theory because if he lived on Mars why would there be no one there to raise his children if they were there too? The science part in my opinion is about either the technicalities of music like music theory or its about how the press follows him around incessantly involving the world with his business because it's just his job. Just my two cents.

Toadies – Dollskin Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song might be about how there was a girl and she didn't feel loved so she killed herself. The narrator is another family member talking about what happens afterwards, such as how everyone just glides around the house sort of sad and empty. Also how the father is at her funeral and is wondering where she went but reminding her that she will always be a part of him. This is also why she has skin like a doll. The light I'm assuming is the light people say is leading you to heaven and furthermore he may be telling everyone to catch it cause its your only way to heaven.

Paul Simon – You Can Call Me Al Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about a many who feels empty/lacks spiritualism and drinks and doesn't think that's what he should do with his life (1st verse). He doesn't think he's seeing the real things to life, then he picks up and leaves his family to a foreign country possibly Africa and there he apparently finds God.(2nd and 3rd) as far as the Chorus I think while he's in this strange place he is asking someone to watch out for him in exchange for his friendship. Basically I think its about Paul being in Africa and sort of finding himself.

Pink Floyd – Goodbye Blue Sky Lyrics 21 years ago
I think an even more interesting point is in the fact that on the version I have there's a kid talking right before the song starts saying something like "Look mommy, there's no plane up in the sky."

Weezer – Hash Pipe Lyrics 22 years ago
I think people should realize that Weezer's not going to keep making the Blue album and Pinkerton over and over again, they have to strive for new styles or else music wouldn't go anywhere. Not to say the fate of music in general rests on the shoulders of Rivers himself but he and his band do play an important part. I mean if Zeppelin hadn't experimented so much in three and actually cared what everyone thought they wouldn't have moved on to create other good albums like four and Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti shall I go on? Music isn't permanence it's evolution.

Cream – White Room Lyrics 22 years ago
A lot of people think this song is about Vietnam -
White room - white house and other little metaphors within the song, not to mention it was right in that time period, but i read that Jack Bruce and Pete Brown wrote this song about Brown's flat and it's surroundings and a longing for this girl. If you look at the descriptive words you'll notice that when talking about the outside world and everything in it, they use very flat descriptive words. But when they refers to the girl they use really good imagery and she seems to be the light in the poorly light white room. CLAPTON IS GOD!

The Strokes – Hard To Explain Lyrics 22 years ago
This song talks about the steps and actions taken by people who make it musically. He talks about how most musicians go about it as if they're just in it for the fame but he's not like that. The most interesting line found in the bridge "raised in Carolina, I'm not like that" could possibly be a reference to Fred Durst who was raised in North Carolina and a further statement of how they are not like every other "look at us aren't we awesome" band. The chorus is just a great big statement of how he's going through all the right channels but keeps a sense of humor, "I watch the TV forget what I'm told" - He sees how everybody thinks things should be but refuses to go that route. Then more about all that. And the last lines "I try but you see its hard to explain" mean he's trying to make it but not sell out but he finds it hard to explain what is the right way exactly. I think this can all be proved in their response to making videos. At first they sought a contract in which they wouldn't have to make videos but got to a point where they knew they would have to make one to reach the whole world. Their main problem with the video was that they were against lip-synching but agreed to do a live taping for MTV. ROCK AND ROLL COULD SAVE THE WORLD BUT WHO'LL SAVE ROCK AND ROLL?

The Strokes – Someday Lyrics 22 years ago
This is my favorite Strokes song (so far). I think he is explaining how things are so great when you're a kid, but eventually you realize you're getting older and you and your friends can't stay together forever. The chorus also shows this well because says he "lacks in depth" or needs to mature realize the meaning to his life, he has this girl who wants to stay with him even though there not right for each other and he has realized this so he tells her he must go, and the final part about working hard means like college or just getting a job etc so he's not stuck working so hard the rest of his life and the very last line is the best where he realizes all of this and decides not to waste another day. The overall repeating theme(and title) "someday" is more of a bane than something he's wishing for even though he says it so promisingly. THE STROKES = THE NEW OLD FACE OF ROCK.

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 22 years ago
Did anyone ever notice how the lyrics kind of sound like they're describing a blow job? I mean the bridge about "hello" then "how low?" The chorus about how with the lights out its less dangerous, the last word libido. Especially the last verse about "why I taste", "it makes me smile" "I found it hard it was hard to find oh well whatever nevermind" hmmm... other hints all through the song, but I don't know it was just a thought. Nevermind...
