This is Helen's song, not Barbra's or Jordan's or any woman who follows. Helen made it an anthem of the 70's at a time when one was needed. Over 50% of women living in poverty (often with children) were displaced homemakers. It wasn't until 1972 that a woman could get credit on her own. We may have gone to the extreme in the form of not appreciating the lives of innocent growing children and some may have sacrificed older children for extreme careers, but the movement WAS needed at the time. And today I celebrate this sense of freedom and accomplishment after having just installed my VERY FIRST new toilet seat! It sounds like nothin' (don't hate....appreciate), but when it's a first it's always special and important. (But now I do know that y'all men need to be assigned more work; you've been skatin'!!!) LOL. (...always a bad sign when one laughs at herself:) Helen's song ROCKS! |

I don't exactly disagree nor agree. But how does this increase consumer spending? It's not exactly promoting a brand or product. If it's just trying to increase someone to buy the track, then yeah, most songs are trying to do so. |

| Zombie Nation – Kernkraft 400 Lyrics

Little known useless fact - the band is actually called Zombie Nation and the song is Kernkraft 400, but since the only lyrics to the song are 'zombie nation', most people mixed it up. Add to it that this one one of the big file-share traded songs (thanks to Sean Parker and Napster), and the title/artist were quickly mixed up around the world... |

| K'naan – Wavin' Flag Lyrics
|
K'naan wrote Waving Flag to be uplifting and encouraging. And it certainly did as the track hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a huge part of Coca-Cola's advertising campaign during the World Cup. The track itself is about a young child growing up in poverty and in a war torn country. But as violent and depressing the society is, the child still holds onto the hope of peace and freedom.
K'naan changed a decent portion of the lyrics when Coca-Cola licensed the rights to the track. |

Released as a single in 1998, Victory features The Notorious B.I.G. as well as Busta Rhymes and peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100. You might recognize the loop in the background as it samples Bill Conti's Going the Distance; the song featured in Rocky. |

| DJ Kool – Let Me Clear My Throat Lyrics

This all time jam was recorded live while at the Bahama Bay Club in Philly in April of 1996. While the introductory horns is from Kool and the Gang's Hollywood Swinging. The sample/loop we all love and rock out to is from 1987's The 900 Number.
The song appears everywhere from movies, to other tracks and to every real party out there. It was, and still is, one of the most invigorating tracks because it catered to no one and to everyone. |

Saw him perform this at Carnegie Hall with Toca and it was incredible. Made me appreciate my wife even more knowing that we've been through so much stuff lately with our animals and despite frustration, we stuck together and didn't give up -- not on each-other nor on our guys. |

Such a powerful song and it has been in my rotation for quite some time. While the song does have a tone of death and dying to it, I cannot help but relate to this song in a way that he's reflecting on something lost or about to be lost -- but he has great appreciation for this something or someone. And ultimately, he knows he needs to just breathe to get through it. |
