I'm going to attempt to be The Negotiator here. I am mostly of "Cracka' Blood" (it's not "Cracker" in the South, at least where I currently live) but I grew up around an Indian Reservation and my mom taught at a tribal college. I was exposed to a lot of reservation culture and the horrible history and the difficulty of holding onto tradition in a nation of assimilation. True, a lot (most) of Native Americans do not like the white man, and not just our ancestors. Native Americans cannot get good credit b/c they don't own their land (Feds do, it is in trust to the people) and their funds are controlled by the Federal Government. so basically they are in a trap that is trying to be fixed by putting casinos on reservations to make money. So basically they have to sell out to capitalism to make it. Native Americans are more oppressed and poor than any other group of people in this country (Pine Ridge Reservation is the poorest place in U.S.--South Dakota). So, adamizer has a point, but anger is a defense mechanism to try to make an argument seem more right. Nothingface555 also uses the classic WhitePeople defense mechanism "we didn't... our ancestors...", relieving blame so the issue can be ignored and hushed up. RATM fans, focus! Let us not fight over these issues. RATM is so right on, and they might hate me, but that is their right. We all really need to take messages like RATM's and listen and do something instead of trying to pinpoint blame. Use their words to look inside and then take these words as your actions outside. We are hypocrites living in a hypocritical "Evil Empire"; as we watch TV and avoid reading, reflecting, critical thought, and action, We as a people need to use our thoughts and voices to make a difference instead of getting lazy and apathetic. That is what 'They' want. And I think that is part of RATM's worldview. They are the underdogs, speaking up for the underdog, letting it be known that we are miseducated and need to read on past the bold words, the big dates, etc. That underdogs are gathering, and have a voice, an educated voice, and are waiting for the time when the powers get lazy, lose touch, and lose the will of the people. This is happening now, w/corporations and unions basically buying politicians opinions while we as citizens are losing voice and power. This is similar to the history of Rome (look at Radiohead's "You and Whose Army" as they are trying to state that we are repeating this history, then read 'The Fall of the Roman Empire' as the similarities to U.S. History should make you aware of the theory concerning cycles of govt.--democracy then republic then oligarchy then kingdom/dictatorship/facism/civil war struggle--as this is a true theorem in the study of history) and 1700s France b4 the revolution. This will happen again. This is happening NOW--period of quiet (like pre-1914) in the world w/peace and trade being broken by extremists coming to power everywhere b/c of power struggles caused by economic woes (see Argentina/Africa/Phillipines/Algeria/Austria/Malaysia/etc.).A war is imminent and will create a shift in power. Read about the Spanish Civil War and the brief period of rule by so-called 'Anarchists' trying to live a different way. We can do this. And we can gather together our collective power and find a new way to live. We are all friends here; we cannot fight. This is what they want. Let's make them sweat instead of each other. |
