has anyone seen the music video? From analyzing it along with analyzing the lyrics, I believe I might have come up with the meaning. I see it beginning with a young, wealthy woman. She find a suitable man of similar status and lots of money and "falls in love" with him, excited and eager to start a life and family. She does not realize that she is, in fact, in love with the idea of love more than the man himself, and in love with the idea of a family more than HER family. So in the midst of this blind excitement and immaturity, the couple has a baby. They see it as an accessory or a toy: they're entertained by it more than they love it. As the woman and man begin to realize they aren't as in love as they thought, they split up, and she takes half his money. Her child is left behind. Everything about the child becomes a nuisance and the child becomes annoying, not so much of a toy anymore but a chore. It is neglected emotionally and mistreated. I believe this song is about the downfall of a family, and the dirty truth behind the american dream: but that's just my opinion. |
