He has troubles and he's lonely but just not today. Why? He's going to "wash away". How can you erase loneliness and troubles temporarily with such confidence? Well, he's using water references - river/wash away so a more literal reading is that he goes out on a boat to forget his troubles. But I would guess they are metaphors, so it's likely a song about escapism through drugs. It sums up the opiate experience pretty good. So it could be a heroin song. |
