After the '75 Earls Court shows, Robert Plant and family were vacationing on the Greek isle of Rhodes and were involved in a car accident. Percy broke his leg and had other injuries. His wife's injuries were very serious and she was flown back to the UK for the medical care. Due to the tax laws in the UK, Robert could only be in the country for a certain number of days or he would be taxed severely (90%ish....IIRC). Basically, he was "forced" to leave the UK on tax exile. He wrote the song in Malibu, I believe, separated from his injured wife. The feeling pours out of your speakers. Page's guitar sound and solo convey Robert's thoughts better than any words can. |
