I love this song! I am 99.9% sure that it relates to the French Revolution. For a start the name, while being Spanish for Live Life is also a take on the French term Viva la France. The lyrics, with their nod to Christian religion and powerful imagery also have a European view to them. I think the main Character is King Louis who was slowly taken through the streets in the morning to his execution at the gallows in front of a baying crowd. Hence the line “head on a silver plate”. It would also show towards the lines where he is talking that he once held the key and felt all powerful to finding his empire is built on nothing that can’t be taken away “pillars of salt, pillars of sand”. Also during his reign the French empire was certainly the strongest in Europe and during which time Europe was seen as the centre of the World. Pls correct me if you think this is wrong. |
