This song expresses me so perfectly that it was extremely hard to listen to when it first came out... it's about holding back the pain, hurt, and emotion that makes me less of a man... not showing my fear, etc... being strong when I should just back off and walk away... smiling when I should be crying... all that kinda stuff but then somebody sees it, and they try to help... try to talk you out of your shell, and nothing happens, you just go on lying to everybody and everything, until you finally do break, and snap... the same basic premise I think of a slipknot song by the title of "Wait and Bleed" but that's just what this song means to me... |

omg, This song makes me feel amazing, such as songs like bright eyes by blind guardian, or webalergy by sonata arctica, whatever mood I'm in listening to songs such as these turns me into a raving uber-happy lunatic... throwing my fists into the air, screaming at the super-high pitched tone I love to scream at... This song to me is about the single ray of light in the darkest of times to guide the way... but bieng held back by the darkness that surrounds us... the darkness bieng our fear, our lack of bravery, courage, whatever, the opression that divides us... most of his other songs have a deep, dark overpowering feeling, that makes me cringe, and skip the CD... but this song, it set me onto power metal, and epic, soaring, fantastic tales and opisus about freedom, bravery, and standing up to those that wish to hold you down... |

I can't believe this song doesn't have 100000 posts in it... it's like the greatest message I've heard... pretty much everything has been said except this... What I know is this, this song is about how everybody will do anything to get ahead... except for nofx... cause they'll never sell out... or something like that ;) well, maybe without the sell out part... but still, this is one of the best songs I've ever heard, and I listen to it at least 400 times a day... it makes me ffeel good about bieng poor, and never having anything nice... but someday I will! I must not have the version the author of these lyrics have, because evidently, they are almost the same, but not in the proper order... anyway, I don't believe it's about the evil in the world, or evil in general, it's about mankind... we think we'll be here till the end of the world, wheras, our legacy will die with us, and the planet will continue even after we are gone... it's just worded crazily... just think of the song as bieng sung by the planet, and not a man, and you'll see what I mean... too me, it's about the planet bieng alive, knowing what is happening, and trying to stop what's happening, but with company's polluting more and more, and the president (be it a country's, or company's) not doing anything to stop it, but trying to make a profit off of it... and backing into the fear of god stable to stop the onlooker's from destroying the people in charge to make a better world... |

all of you saying the ending kinda ruins it with the killing of the mockingbird, and the carat eating... kinda don't get it... The reason I see to put something like that, is to show EXACTLY what you would do for your child... if you wouldn't 'kill' in the illiteral sense for your child, you deserve not to have one... hell, I would beat some guys ass who messed with my little sister because I love her so much... wait till i get a daughter, it's gonna be hell until she turns 18 and moves out... ;) oh, and the part about christmas I just broke down... literally, that hit me like a ton of bricks, because something similiar happened last christmas... just didn't have the money, so my gf put my name on a few presents and said they were from me... I have no children btw, because I am poor and cannot afford them, so most of em's songs about his daughter's really hits me, because I would love to raise and care for a child, but I don't want to bring them into a world where they won't be able to get what they need... THAT is what this song says to me... the part about the money jar for college... "Shh, momma's only gone for the moment" and mostly this part... I believe that this song is about a couple where one of the members attached so profoundly to the other, that that person wanted them to be together forever, with nothing trying to split them apart... such as your gf or bf getting upset because you went out with your friends, or because you were hanging out with a member of the opposite sex... oh, and echelon doesn't mean wholy formation of ranks of an army, or army terms... it can also mean a ranking system... such as the man bieng the breadwinner, thus he is the top dog of the household, or vice versa... such as the president is the top echelon, and the newborns today are the base echelon... such as you go into a hotel, and ask for a floor on the 6th echelon... they'll most likely give you a hotel on the 6th floor... just make sure it's a nice hotel when you do it ;) I think it pretty much boils down to a girl talking to her boyfriend\husband about bieng herself again, because she doesn't like who she's become because of him... but she still loves him and wants to be with him... |

This song, to me, is about standing up to abuse... Just sit there and imagine bieng a little kid, skinny, short, getting picked on by the guy who weighs twice what you do... he goes to shove you, and you grab his hands, step to the side, and trip him and he breaks his nose when his face bounces off the concrete... imagine bieng a female in a relationship with a very ill-tempered male... and finally grabbing his hand when he goes to slap you... imagine you looking at the entire world, and seeing every person is better then you... Then imagine trying to fix that problem... this song is not about a single ideal to me... it's about a few of them, mainly, standing up to oppressors, or people holding you back from bieng you... This song also suggests to me that perhaps the singer is trying to either attone, or create a sense of it... such as, he had to be the best, no matter who he stepped on, or what he took... and he realised at one point that other people have feelings, just as he did... and he's trying to honor and respect his fellow man finally... I will have to admit, I did not like breaking benjamin... but my now ex-girlfriend pretty much forced me to listen to the cd one day... and I fell in love with these guys... awesome band, also an awesome song, with too damned many different, sometimes shady, sometimes silver-lined meanings! |
