"i have to give her props tho for being a somewhat chunky girl and still having the guts to wear tight jens in the video. when i saw it i was like 'OMG hilary duff has a gut!'" Wow, that was vain. I don't see Hilary as being "chunky" at all. She looks normal to me... as in "not anorexic." It is a good "healthy" image. As for her music? Blasé. But, it sounds like the rest of the chick-pop out there so... I guess that's what the market wants. |

At first I thought this song was about a girl "coming clean" about some sort of addiction. Then, I thought, "Hilary Duff singing about drugs? What an oxymoron!" After the music video I realized that the addiction, like most other singers' "problems", was only skin deep. |

Religion is hard to swallow. I think that is pretty much the song's meaning. I never really understand it when people go on and on about how God "lets" things happen. I mean, perhaps, I've been reading about some other God, but humans usually are the ones that "make" things happen (or "let" things happen). And yet we blame it on a God (who many don't believe in)... sounds like humans are the ones we need to blame... |

Well, to me the song is about women "breaking" men, so to speak. Whether the woman is tempting (or testing) the man's strength in religion, resolution, etc through the guise of sex, love, or both (gee, this theme has been a bit over-used in literature). In other words, human love (or lust, who knows now-a-days?) isn't all that it is cracked up to be (i.e. it doesn't necessarily "complete" you, but it can destroy you). But, Great song! |

Whao! Where is the religious tolerance? on both sides of the line, I mean! I don't think this song was trying to start up religious mud-slinging between creationalism and atheism (evolutionism, or whatever). To each his own. If you believe in God, than Great. If you believe in... nothing happening after you die (aside from the obvious), Wonderful. I think the irony the song is portraying (to me, anyhoo) is someone who is either struggling with/ or coming to terms with their belief (or lack thereof) in religion. They're mad at the injustices of society and are complaining at a God, who they don't believe in (my head hurts). When, if they're upset with society, and truly don't believe in a God, they should be complaining at people in general to fix it. They go to pains to pluck certain lines (Biblically speaking) such as : "Made in your image" and "thorny crown" which provides bitter-sweet irony. "Made in your image," means IMHO that we can be as cruel and careless as the God that made us (or vice versa if you want). But, one fail-safe in the doctrine that this song does not address (and regrettably rattles on about: God not helping us) -- one that most educated creationalists or educated non-creationalists would point out is that it specifically states God gave his beings free will to do what they wish. So taking the song from a logical viewpoint, it is simply fighting an uphill battle (much like piting religious beliefs against each other, you would be fighting an uphill battle). Why do Christians hate on anything that attacks their beliefs? Well, this question could be asked in the same manner to an Atheist. Why do Atheists hate on anything that attacks their beliefs? Well, just that. Someone feels their beliefs (which is apart of them, personally) is being "attacked." So they attack back. I personally see religion as a good thing for a society. It gives people a reason to be good, or at least atone, and it gives hope to some who would otherwise not find any. I mean if you take away eternal punishment for being sinful, then what's so wrong with killing, suicide, etc? What's going to happen to you? You die? Well, we all die... Death just sucks if you think you might get treatment a la Dante's Inferno. |
