Not to sound bitter, but the talented Mr. Waits could not have been serious when he wrote this. It's about a man who has been "true" to his love. Is Waits living on this planet? (That's really unfair as there are some who are faithful; I was married to one.)

Hi, love Joy Division btw. Are you referring to "Hang Down Your Head?" I think, this is just my opinion, that a lot of songwriters and storytellers like to write all types of stories. Whether it be one they lived themselves or about other people. When I listen to a singer/songwriter I don't necessarily think they're writing about their own stories. I think they take inspiration from many stories out there. He's been married for years and has kids and a very happy marriage. He could have been writing about his past or someone else. I really adore that song, probably one of my very favorites of his. The reason I like it so much is the feeling in the way he sings it. It's so gut wrenching and you can really feel the pain of the character he is singing about. I can relate. PS.I'm glad you were married to a wonderful woman, I'm sorry for your loss. I lost a great love of mine several years ago and thought I couldn't survive it but I did and have found new love, well we've been together for 7 yrs and I'm eternally grateful that I was able to find true love again. I hope you have or will too. <3Flag CrimsonSorrowon November 05, 2011
