I saw Slothrust recently on the 10 year anniversary tour for this album. Leah said she wrote this song about Brittany Spears. Now that I know that the lyrics make perfect sense.

What a great band.
What a great band.
Imelda Marcos in a shoe store. Possibly the most transparent Knopfler song he ever wrote.

It’s a song about good parents to a trouble son or daughter, In my point of view as I have learned from listening to It as that is what I was, and now with kids of my own. That’s it.

I think that bravosfan take the bull by the horns. Ego death. I think that this interpretation is all righ about essential Hendrix song. It´s a falace of freudomarxism that states you can not access to reality with your senses. Contrary to this, you indeed have access to realtiy with your reason and conscience and besides you have the power to modify the reality only with your conscience and your mind. Therefore it´s a radical different point of view about wolrld and knowledge. But in mi opinion Modernism, since Descartes philosophy is as a whole perspective a big mistake and Hendrix and contracultural movement were cought in this false teory of knowlegde.
Love this song, thanks for the lyrics, my suggested corrections below:

Also think it's "next BREAK was your pretty face" but I do see "wave" posted elsewhere. I think it sounds like break and break makes more sense?

If he's talking about Morrissey, he's wrong. "Of the honest truth There'd be no trace"? So there was no reel around the fountain and nobody gave him something that he wouldn't forget too soon? Or was he talking about his own songs?

According to the official video for the track: "This song is dedicated to the memory of the many artists and performers who left behind a great legacy... We will remember!" In his memoir, Biff Byford says he was thinking specifically of Phil Lynott - whom he knew - and Bon Scott. It is about remembering great rock musicians at their best. Biff said he was disdainful of some of the poor quality posthumous Hendrix releases: "I turned the whole band onto AC/DC but I don't want to hear Bon Scott singing Christmas carols that someone once taped in the studio."...

This is my favorite song, hands down, and their (or really Travis Meeks') 1st album is also my favorite album of all time. He released that album at age 17, meaning he wrote all those songs, music and lyrics when he was just a kid. I really connect to his lyrics and I'm humbled by his complexity and creativeness at such a young age.

What follows is my interpretation of Whimsical's lyrics. Please keep in mind that I may be a tad bit crazy, at least compared to what's considered 'normal' lol....
What follows is my interpretation of Whimsical's lyrics. Please keep in mind that I may be a tad bit crazy, at least compared to what's considered 'normal' lol....
1st verse and chorus:
1st verse and chorus:
He's explaining how he sees and experiences the world, which he has clearly found is not shared or understood by the majority of the world's ppl. "Ppl say its all a fukking dream...", when he tries to talk to others about his feelings, beliefs, experiences, ppl shun him and call him crazy. Thus the "... Is it me? It 'is' only me". He's all alone in this world and he knows he'll forever be isolated.
2nd verse, and extended chorus:
He has to escape, to get away from the world. Because although the world doesn't understand him, he also doesn't understand the world. He's expected to fall in line, do what he's told, believe what he's told, act like he's told.... "One against all, I'm starving this world".... I can relate. The ppl of this world are naive and blind to what's really going on around them... expected behaviors, and culture in general is nonsensical and unacceptable for him. Relationships with others don't work, and he's learned to interact as little as possible ".... Do u want me?..You think u can have me??..." Not a chance....
All that being said, he's ofc still saddened and grief-stricken by his loneliness. But he won't let the world change him, he is who he is, and he's unwilling to conform. If the world thinks he's crazy, f**k the world, cuz he sees it for what it is, and THE WORLD is what's crazy. I wholeheartedly agree!
3rd verse and chorus:
This one is a bit more specific I think. U are judged by how u look, how u speak, ur race, ur gender... "Subjected to you mother nature, Limited to the color of your eyes..." Ppl are hurt, limited, and sometimes destroyed by the things they hold dear, are attached to, are addicted to, etc. Even when they know it's hurting them or it's complete nonsense, ppl continue the 'thing'. I've done it myself, countless times.... human nature is hard to bear...."Drained by the one you call your lover, she don't care If u live or die..."
The outro lyrics:
Quite literal I think. There are always problems, he's accepted that this is his reality, and he's chosen to not allow the ever existent problems of the world overwhelm him and make his whole life problematic. He sees the truth, tries to deal with his problems, and knows that many times we ourselves are the source of most of our problems. Change urself if u can and must. Have the wisdom to change what u can, and the strength to accept and bear what u cannot.
