In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home (oh, won't you please take me home)
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home (oh, won't you please take me home)
Just a urchin livin' under the street
I'm a hard case that's tough to beat
I'm your charity case so buy me something to eat
I'll pay you at another time
Take it to the end of the line
Rags to riches or so they say
Ya gotta keep pushin' for the fortune and fame
You know it's, it's all a gamble when it's just a game
Ya treat it like a capital crime
Everybody's doin' the time
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home
Strapped in the chair of the city's gas chamber
Why I'm here I can't quite remember
The surgeon general says it's hazardous to breathe
I'd have another cigarette but I can't see
Tell me who you're gonna believe
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home, yeah yeah
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
Captain America's been torn apart
Now he's a court jester with a broken heart
He said "turn me around and take me back to the start"
I must be losing my mind "are you blind?"
I've seen it all a million times
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home, yeah yeah
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home
I wanna go, I wanna go
Oh, won't you please take me home
I wanna see how good it can be
Oh, won't you please take me home
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home
Take me down, lead me 'round
Oh, won't you please take me home
I wanna see, what a woman can be
Oh, won't you please take me home
I wanna see, what a woman can be (oh, oh take me home)
Take me down to the paradise city
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Oh, won't you please take me home
I wanna go, I wanna know
Oh, won't you please take me home, yeah baby
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
Take me home (oh, won't you please take me home)

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
This song is about Axl Rose reflecting on his childhood, up-bringing and home town: Lafayette, Indiana. At the age of 16, Axl (then William Bruce Bailey) was made homeless by his parents as he refused to cut his hair. The line, "Just an urchin livin' under the street, I'm a hard case that's tough to beat, I'm your charity case so buy me somethin' to eat- I'll pay you at another time. Take it to the end of the line" refers to the time he spent on the streets, with no money or food. The line "Ragz to richez or so they say, ya gotta-keep pushin' for the fortune and fame. It's all a gamble when it's just a game, ya treat it like a capital crime. Evrybody's doin' their time" refers to the conversations he'd had with his parents about his dreams and ambitions of moving to LA and becoming a rock star, they were unsupportive and told him 'horror stories' about what happened to people in LA. This is also the meaning behind the line "Strapped in the chair of the city's gas chamber, why I'm here I can't quite remember. The surgeon general says it's hazardous to breathe, I'd have another cigarette but I can't see. Tell me who ya gonna believe"- his 'father' (he later discovered that Bailey wasn't his real father) discouraged him from moving and tried to convince him that he'd never succeed. The phrase "Paradise City" is in refference to his home town Lafayette, Indiana- he's reflecting on its beauty.
@BethLovesGNR Getting back to the actual meaning of the song, BethLovesGNR, I agree with your interpretation of the first 3 verses, but you didn't give your opinion on the last verse: (Captain America's been torn apart<br /> Now he's a court jester with a broken heart<br /> He said—<br /> Turn me around and take me back to the start<br /> I must be losin' my mind—"Are you blind?"<br /> I've seen it all a million times)<br /> <br /> I think at that time he meant that America was no longer what it was, that it went from super powerful and admirable to ridicuous and pathetic, as from being an awesome superhero and turning into a buffoon that just entertains the royal family. Being that us Americans just being pathetic and ridiculous to those in power, be it the President or Corporations or the Banks. Then when he asks to be taken back to the start I think he's actually saying LET'S go back to the start, are we stupid and blind, haven't we seen enough? we've seen it all a million times and we are still the sheeple of this system that pushes us into living on the streets, into living from charity, into backstabbing anyone in order to get ahead, and if we cross the lines is gives us, it just gasses us.<br /> <br /> I'd love to hear your thoughts on this verse. <br /> <br /> Cheers!
wen this song was being written slash thought it sounded gay so he tried to get it changed from "grass is green and th girls are pretty" to "girls are fat and theyv got big titties" but the other band members thought it was stupid and overruled it
this isnt me makin shit up its in slashs autobiography
I put this song on just before I go out partying - always gets me in the mood - explosive heavy riff and strong drumming.....exquisite.
i know most of the stuff i'm responding to was written ages ago, but i'm new to this site and have to agree with G.E.R.M.S, that just to be a little piece of the puzzle on Appetite would make you a genius. as for what nothing2lose said: 1) if axl is not original, please tell me who he stole his sound and/or lyrics from, i will download the tracks immediately and then thank you for expanding my music collection. 2) how many other singers could sing multiple verses without taking a breath or hold a note as long as axl could at his peak? 3) he was egotistical??? i'm sorry, but it's pretty naive to think that most celebrities DON'T think they're better than the rest of us. in other words, so what?? sorry, just had to vent
great fucking song.... one of the best metal songs ever.. well the music anyway... lyrics arent to bad..
first thing , to NOTHING2LOSE, you have to get your shit right buddy, if you don't like someone because they broke up your fav band"AXL" thats fine, .... but you can't say things like," axl is the most talentless human beind on the planet." that is the worst call man , even being a part of the album "appitite", must put you up there in the rock hall of fame, no matter how much of a dickhead you are, i don't think to much of axl either, but you have to admit he is good. come on dude , think about it ,they were one of the biggest things in the late 80's. you know it. and this is comeing from someone who is not that much of a gunners fan. but i know good music and the gunners rock, and axl was the front man remember. so think again be fore you make that kind of statement.
my favorite gnr song after sweet child o mine. i would say its about going home after a lot of bad things hav happend i know its kind of a bad way to put it but thats wat it think
that isnt how it stars
