In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Every time I see your face I get all wet between my legs
Every time you pass me by, I heave a sigh of pain
Every time I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fuck you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fuck you and your minions, too
Your face reminds me of a flower
Kind of like you're underwater
Hair's too long and in your eyes
Your lips a perfect "suck me" size
You act like you're fourteen years old
Everything you say is so obnoxious, funny, true and mean
I want to be your blow job queen
You're probably shy and introspective
That's not part of my objective
I just want your fresh, young jimmy
Jamming, slamming, ramming in me
Every time I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fuck you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fuck you till your dick is blue
Every time
Every time you pass me by, I heave a sigh of pain
Every time I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fuck you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fuck you and your minions, too
Your face reminds me of a flower
Kind of like you're underwater
Hair's too long and in your eyes
Your lips a perfect "suck me" size
You act like you're fourteen years old
Everything you say is so obnoxious, funny, true and mean
I want to be your blow job queen
You're probably shy and introspective
That's not part of my objective
I just want your fresh, young jimmy
Jamming, slamming, ramming in me
Every time I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fuck you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fuck you till your dick is blue
Every time

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Holiday
Bee Gees
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
sex.
I disagree with the person who said girls don't think this graphically. We may not be thinking the things described in this song ALL the time and we may not think them very often, but we DO. See, the thing is, when we're excited by someone, we don't THINK about those emotions and feelings, we only FEEL them. We've all felt them. Liz just has the remarkable ability of putting what we're all thinking into words.
Great song. Very human and simple.
I think it's a joke. Not a "ha ha" joke; I think it's supposed to be ironic. It's what every virile young man would love to hear a woman say to him. What immature and obnoxious man doesn't want a blowjob queen, regardless of whether he deserves it? The irony is that he doesn't deserve it.
I also think an ironic take on the song fits much better in context with the rest of "Exile in Guyville."
I think I agree. It's not that I believe only men think this way (that's definitely not true, and Liz Phair is definitely not shy) it's just that the completely deadpan tone and even more monotone delivery than usual makes it seem like she's reciting what a man wants to hear, rather than something she's actually sincere about.
I don't think wanting a blowjob queen makes you immature and obnoxious. All men enjoy a blow job from a woman who likes to give them. I also don't think it is a joke. Liz is singing about having her own sexual energy unlike most women when the album was released. It is a faux pas for a woman to talk like this, but ok for men to be sexually suggestive. I think she is being bold and honest and confronting the issue of women hiding their sexuality. From my experience when are just as sexual as men but are not allowed to be proud of it, demonstrated by the fact that when they write a song about it someone says "she must be joking"
wait, what are you guys - i thought it was about flowers
I am quite fond of this song. Most of it is self-explanatory - and I mean REALLY self-explanatory. But I think these are very good lyrics; in fact they are so good, and so painfully honest and relatable that they hold up the integrity of the song. In another artist's hands, this song probably would have come out sounding terribly raunchy, but with Liz Phair, that doesn't happen at all. I especially like the lines "You act like you're fourteen years old/Everything you say is so/Obnoxious, funny, true and mean"...well, I guess that's all I've to say. Where are all the other Liz fans?!?!
whoa, dude this stuff is awwsome. i love how she can talk about getting wet between her legs and wanting to be a blow job queen so freely. rock on liz
this is exactly how I feel about Ian Hecox sighs He gets me so fucking hot
i think this is about the sexual attraction of a woman to a man who probably doesnt notice her cos he has a girlfriend or something. and she wants to fuck him badddd :)
I love it. It's so so fucking good and honest and explicit.
Also, why does it have to be ironic? Not only men think this way. I certainly do.
i know, right?
