The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
I think this song is about a guy who is or has been a drug addict and he has a girlfriend that wants him to "stay clean" and keep off the drugs. Maybe the girl doesn't trust the guy; "she'd take me anywhere, as long as she stays with me". As to the last part of the song, I have no idea. Maybe the guy likes kissing his girl.
Come on. The Vaselines version is great and soft. Nirvana's version is rough and very cool. Both are great.
You guys are all idiots. Molly is a type of ectascy. A drug.
Thanks. I had no clue.
This is a cover by a UK band. In the UK molly is known as mandy. This song is about a TV personality and a childhood crush
xxxRaelenxxx nailed it, Molly is pure Ecstasy with no other substances added (tastes awful Btw), Taking it is often called "Kissing Molly". Good "Molly" is Said to be "Clean" meaning it has nothing else in it and you aren't getting ripped off...
Sorry to all you who thought it was a love song but Eugene Kelly, lead singer of The Vaselines and the writer of this song, was known to have struggled with Ecstasy Addiction.
So in other words Molly is MDMA, LoL. There really are no pure Ecstacy pills with silly designs on them.
Molly is known as mandy in the UK. So try again

i dont get you....
but this is a cool song, i think its about being in love...or infatuation, like your willing to do pretty much anything to "kiss kiss"
It's so bizarre... I can hear this song playing in my head and I don't think I've ever heard it before... :/
@pollyfarmer A lot of songs are similar, that might be why....
this is a great cover of the song... the vaselines never really had much to say but they had great songs
My dad knows the sister of Frances Mckee (from the vaselines), hehe, just boasting! I haven't heard them, but i love Mollys Lips and Son of a Gun, so I guess they're great!
Molly's Lips and Son Of A Gun are vaselines covers??
