In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I've got the understanding of a 4-year-old
I've got the peice of mind of a killer soul
I've got the rationale of a new york cop
I've got the patience of a chopping block yeah
Trip like I do
Trip like I do (oh my god this is the best)
I've got the acumen of a season broke
I've got the lack of say of a billion souls
I've got the world on my back but I don't seem to care
I've got the comprehension of a world unaware yeah
Trip like I do
Trip like I do (oh my god this is the best)
Trip like I do (mm..i want you to trip like I do)
Can't you, can't you trip like I do
Can't you, can't you trip like I do
Laid down my back I can't sleep cause I'm falling
Eyes in my teeth I can't see cause I'm eating
Head full of noise I can't think cause it's crushing
Back on my feet like a freight trian I'm coming
Can everybody feel like I do
Can everybody feel like I do (oh my god)
Can't you can't you trip like I do
Can't you can't you trip like I do (oh my god)
Can't you trip can't you think can't you feel like I do
Can't you walk can't you breathe can't you trip like I do

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
Another example of a great song supporting a piece-of-shit movie. This song is really self-explanatory. The narrator feels he's achieved a new state of mind after, well, taking acid. Really cool, hi-tech fututristic effects throughout the song.
OMG awesome song from a sweet movie. ya gotta ove spawn. So many great phrases in this one... rationale of a NY cop..... back on my feet like a freight train im cumming...... i LOVE IT!!!!!!
Great song... rox0rs. L33t rox0rs.
"The lyrics are childish," said Patrick, who added that he's not a reader of the Spawn comic series that inspired the movie. "It's like an innocent child trying to communicate 'The understanding of a 4-year-old/ and the rationale of a New York cop.' Essentially it's like I've done things in my life, why don't you give them a shot? Can't everybody feel like I do?"
"...Just a kind of over-the-top fucking anthem about tripping on fucking acid."
Great metaphors, none-the-less.
Yeah, it's definitely a great song about tripping on acid or shrooms... I used to think it was just a random cool song but after the first time I tripped, I totally understood this song so much more....
bad ass song, what else is tehre to explain about it? Its about trippin on drugs and enjoying every moment of it. Though i dont do drugs myself... ^_^
Hmm... I always thought the first line was "I got the understanding of a voyeur room." Go figure ;-} Awesome song tho and best concept for a soundtrack EVAR.
