Turn around and smell what you don't see
Close your eyes it is so clear
Here's the mirror, behind there is a screen
On both ways you can get in

Don't think twice before you listen to your heart
Follow the trace for a new start

What you need and everything you'll feel
Is just a question of the deal
In the eye of storm you'll see a lonely dove
The experience of survival is the key
To the gravity of love

The path of excess leads to
The tower of Wisdom
The path of excess leads to
The tower of Wisdom

Try to think about it
That's the chance to live your life and discover
What it is, what's the gravity of love

Look around just people, can you hear their voice
Find the one who'll guide you to the limits of your choice

But if you're in the eye of storm
Just think of the lonely dove
The experience of survival is the key
To the gravity of love.

This song is so amazingly beautiful. I've loved this song for so long. Enigma's music is just so beautiful and complex. When i listen to their music , they take you to another place.

I had this song played at my mothers funeral mass 2 years ago. I find it hard to give myself to people even my family especially my mam, so by giving her this song i kind of gave her my heart that day because this song is truely my heart, this and Dante's prayer. sorry bout all the soppiness that topic is still a sore spot even now 2 years later and i'm quite a deep person especially with music.

As for the meaning i think this is your soul trying to connect with you. The lyrics are quite beautiful and everyone will interpret their own meaning from them, and i think thats what's supposed to happen.

"Turn around and smell what you don't see Close your eyes ... it is so clear Here's the mirror, behind there is a screen On both ways you can get in Don't think twice before you listen to your heart Follow the trace for a new start What you need and everything you'll feel Is just a question of the deal"

I think this means that we are all so much bigger than we think we are and so much more special than we believe. We're part of something bigger and we get bogged down with the mundane in life. The day to day stuff and we don't see the bigger picture or we are afraid to, of what it could mean. Of course i have my doubts about that stuff just like everybody else but at the end of the day it all comes down to faith and it can be hard to believe in something that you can't see or feel but we can't see air but we know it's there and i think the lyrics are saying " don't look at what you can see, look further at what you can't see, see the bigger idea.

    my favourite lyrics are:

"The experience of survival is the key To the gravity of love"

I think this speaks volumes especially when it comes to the meaning of life. I truely believe that the meaning of life is love in whatever shape or form. its the most special thing in the world. Everybody wants to be loved and give love even the people who can't give that part of themselves. Everyone needs to. Love in families, love in relationships, love in friendship. Love for yourself. It's all the same. The lyrics are saying you'll go through pain and sorrow and despair in life and you'll survive and thats the key to love. Love is painful but amazing, you wouldn't feel pain and despair if you didn't love and care. Its horrible but its necessary.

"Look around just people, can you hear their voice Find the one who'll guide you to the limits of your choice"

We are all so caught up in ourselves that we don't stop and think that we're all the same, crying out for the same thing. I think the second line is about finding that other half of your soul like your soulmate or true love. Soppy but true. xxxxxxxx

this is the best way i can think of my opinion on the lyrics of this song: "Turn around and smell what you don't see Close your eyes ... it is so clear"- maybe its saying that dont rely on juss using ur sight, use ur other senses and feel things within ur soul.

"Here's the mirror, behind there is a screen

On both ways you can get in"- maybe this has to do with urself , [a mirror shows ur reflection and the screen part ( like a tv screen) is what people see] and then maybe u cant reach urself or maybe cant be urself or u wont let ne body in.

"Don't think twice before you listen to your heart

Follow the trace for a new start" - self-explanatary ur heart is with the most truthful emotion and what really guides and dont be afraid to start something new or start a new path in life.

"What you need and everything you'll feel

Is just a question of the deal" - this is saying that the deal represents life and things like what u feel u might need or want is juss questions that come along with ur life.

"In the eye of storm you'll see a lonely dove

The experience of survival is the key To the gravity of love" - being in "the eye of storm" represents being in the middle or center of chaos which in this case is the world and the "lonely dove" ,well doves usually r seen as pairs thus lonely dove it doesnt have a partner which can represent a single person. and the last line is saying that surviving relationships (probably love life in this song) and experiencing this life "is the key to the gravity of love" which gravity is a force that holds u and pulls u in so its love that pulls u in which is why its gravity of love.

"The path of excess leads to

The tower of Wisdom" - excess is defined as a state of exceeding what is normal or sufficient, so maybe it means that going through life u have many obstacles and u gain experiences and it all builds up and u learn from it which u gain wisdom from what u have gone through.

"Try to think about it ...

That's the chance to live your life and discover What it is, what's the gravity of love" - i think it may be saying really think i things over and find the true meaning of the gravity of love. Live ur life, learn and get a better understanding.

"Look around just people, can you hear their voice

Find the one who'll guide you to the limits of your choice" - there are a lot people and u see them but can u hear them and see who they are. and the line "find the one, ect." is saying find that peson who will be ur partner in life and "who will guide u to linits of choice" well when u have that special some1 ur choices are limited cuz u guys will share a life together so in a way it might be like not being a big party person and flirting ne more, u kno when u have some1 u dont do that ..um.. maybe sumthing like that hehe...

"But if you're in the eye of storm

Just think of the lonely dove The experience of survival is the key To the gravity of love." - this is juss saying after the last part about finding that person that why is has the word "but" that if ur in the eye of storm (already explanied) and its juss u in all the chaos by ur self juss think of the lonely dove(who doesnt have a parner but is still alive and surviving) and brings it to the line " the experience of suvival ect." is saying to live , to survive problems and thats they key to find love maybe again?

well i hope i did ok, that's juss my thought and input on it. i probably could have explained and said it better but im not too good at explaining things. i hope people see it this way or interpretate it in their own way or i hope i helped. i dunno ..hehe..^_^

rochey, I think your interpretation is amazing! I just discovered this song 3 days ago(can you believe it?)while doing a mass download of Enigma songs I'd lost...came across this one and figured why not? I've been in love with it ever since!

I'd been trying to figure out exactly what the song meant to me, so I decided to come here to see how others had weighed in, and to get the lyrics. Yours was the one that hit closest to home for me, even though it wasn't my initial opinion of the song. It was more romantic to me, especially now, since, for health reasons, I'm currently several states away from my Husband, who's the love of my life, and whom I miss more than mere words can express. But now that I've got your point of view in my head, the song's even more of a favorite for me. I played "Believe" by Lenny Kravitz for my mother the night before she passed away, as it was her favorite song, and since then, it's been my go-to song for hope and redemption. This is now right up there with it, and I have YOU to thank for that.

tight hugsYour mother would be very, very, VERY proud of you. I know she's looking down on you, and smiling now. Take care.

    My Interpretation

"Oh fortuna, velut luna" = Oh fortune, like the moon.

The moon cycles from being bright and full to being invisible in the night sky. Many people think of their lives in the same way: that some days they have good fortune and other days are just bad luck. Life has its ups and downs. But on a deeper level, realize that the moon is always there, even if you can't see it (a 'new moon'). This transitions into the first verse...

"Turn around, and smell what you don't see. Close your eyes, it's so clear / Here's the mirror, behind there is a screen. From both ways, you can get in"

What's important in life may not always stand out, but it's always with you on a deeper level if you learn to observe it. I think the "mirror" is about self-reflection, discovering yourself/the gravity of love within you/God/your deeper spiritual connection (whatever you want to call it). You can get there either by looking inside yourself (mirror), or seeing yourself from the outside, the way others see you (a screen behind the mirror) by your actions and impact.

"Don't think twice before you listen to your heart / Follow the trace for a new start"

When you find within yourself, trust and love, pay attention to the world around you and your situations. You will 'know' what to do in your heart. Follow your heart to create a change in your life for the better, instead of doing the same old auto-pilot stuff you've been doing.

"What you need, and everything you feel / Is just a question of the deal / In the eye of storm you will see a lonely dove / The experience of survival is the key to the gravity of love"

Once you get to that point, you will be able to be at peace with reality. Accept your situation and the world around you for what it is. Now you are on a new journey, led consciously by your inner gravity of love. Continue on this adventure, no matter where it takes you.

The dove in the eye of a storm is a great example of someone going through a really rough time. The world around you may seem chaotic and shattered, but keep in mind that what's deep inside of you is forever, and hold on to that to keep you strong. The end of the song refers back to this. If you feel that you are alone going through Hell, try not to be discouraged, but remember the dove in the eye of the storm. The weather (your life situation) will always change eventually, but the gravity of love is immortal. Even death cannot destroy it.

"The path of excess leads to the tower of wisdom"

The unimportant, boring life is one spent just fitting in and trudging along wherever the current of your life may take you. Instead, do your best, go all the way. Look for opportunities and act to take advantage of them. Only then can you reach something greater. Alternatively, if you go "too far" then you learn from your mistakes.

"Look around just people, can you hear their voice / Find the one that will lead you to the limit of your choice"

Similar to above, this is encouraging you to push yourself to your limit (you will find that there is no limit). There will be so many people you will come across who lead by example or even will try to tell you what to do. Find a hero/friend/lover who can inspire you on your journey.

This song is about sex orgies. The video is attached to the lyrics. Turn around and smell what you don't see Close your eyes ... it is so clear - means its obvious the place you are in. What you need and everything you'll feel Is just a question of the deal.- means you´ll find everything there with previous deal. In the eye of storm you'll see a lonely dove, The experience of survival is the key To the gravity of love.- You enter the place and see the scene, everybody in ecstasy, have sex but dont fall in love. The path of excess leads to the tower of Wisdom - the practice of sex makes you wiser. Try to think about it... This song is awesome. I feel in love with someone a year ago and this song is the song that reminds me of him. He is my world.

Any song that can pull off using Carmina Burana in the background deserves some credit just for doing it well.

"Look around just people, can you hear their voice Find the one who'll guide you to the limits of your choice"--These two lines especially stand out to me. The song is saying in no matter what you do in your life, find someone who will not hinder you, or keep you the same as when you met them, but find someone that will push you to your limits all the time in everything you do. It is pretty idealistic, I will admit, but finding someone that has that effect on you is still attainable.

This song is my guide to life. Not just sexual relationships but close friends too, also role models etc. I need a lot to hold me up in my pathetic excuse for a life. This song guides me through.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
