Destiny, destiny protect me from the world
Destiny, hold my hand, protect me from the world
Here we are, with our running and confusion
And I don't see no confusion anywhere

And if the world does turn
And if London burns
I'll be standing on the beach with my guitar
I want to be in a band
When I get to heaven
Anyone can play guitar and they won't be a nothing anymore

Grow my hair, grow my hair I am Jim Morrison
Grow my hair, I want to be want to be want to be Jim Morrison

Here we are, with our running and confusion
And I don't see no confusion anywhere

As if the world does turn
And if London burns
I'll be standing on the beach with my guitar
I want to be in a band
When I get to heaven
Anyone can play guitar and they won't be a nothing anymore

I don't want to be Jim Morrison. I think Thom is being sarcastic, like in 'The Bends'...they asked if he really wished it was the 60's, and he told them he didn't at all, said it was a joke. Jim Morrison was a vapid poet who was made into an idol because of good looks and poetry that was mostly LSD induced...and it wasn't good at all.

i kind of get the vibe that this song isn't in seriousness. i kind of get the vibe he's saying that it's sickening how many people think their god's solitary gift to music, while playing stairway to heaven on their guitars devoid of any talent. in addition to which, he's also mocking the rockstar dream. "grow my hair.. i wanna be jim morrisson." he's pretty much making fun of people who try way too hard and still completely fucking suck.

    ah, here we go:

this is from dazedkid- "I don't want to be Jim Morrison. Ahh right i love this song!!! Meaning wise i'm not sure if people know about this but before jim morrison was in the doors there was a band called Rick and the Ravens there was 6 of them and one night one member left. They had a gig due that night and was told they could only play if they had six people! So they called on jim (who can't play the guitar) to stand around and pretend to play so they could do the gig! So thats my view where this song came from!!! Interpret this story however you wish but keep loving radiohead!!!

    Song Meaning

In this song frontman Thom Yorke heaps scorn on desperate wannabes who seek validation via rock stardom. According to Q magazine April 2008 everyone in the studio, from band to catering staff was roped in to play guitar. The track was then cut up and added to the arrangement. Yorke got the idea for the famous line "I wanna be Jim Morrison" after seeing Oliver Stone\'s movie The Doors. The line is meant to convey Yorke\'s dissatisfaction with the mythical status Morrison is given. This was made clear in the band\'s appearance at the MTV Beach House, where they played this song, and Yorke sang, "Maybe if I grow my hair I can become Jim Morrison," before shouting "Fat! Ugly! Dead!" The band\'s lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood played guitar with a paintbrush on this song. Jonny Greenwood has said "I never listened to guitar playing in any band, ever, I still don\'t, really. Worshiping guitarists is all buying guitar magazines. Anybody can play guitar, but writing songs is a far harder challenge. I\'d rather idolize someone like Elvis Costello than I would Steve Vai."

the line, "destiny protect me from the world" is really clever. it would be easy to claim that nothing you can do is wrong cos its destined to happen, and therefore feel that your actions have no consequences that you are really responsble for. the line implies that this would be wrong, because it would be shielding yourself from real life.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
