Why can't you see you torture me
You're already thinking about someone else
When he comes home you'll be in your arms and I'll be gone

But I know
My day will come
I know someday
I'll be the only one

So now you wait for his spark
You know it'll turn you on
He's gonna make you feel the way you want to feel
When he starts to lie when he makes you cry you know I'll be there

My day will come
I know someday
I'll be the only one

Call me selfish call me what you like
I think it's right to want someone for all your own
and not to share her love
And I'll have my way and won't have to say anyway
I've got you
You didn't stand a chance
You want perfection
I see your self destruction
You don't know what you want
It's gonna take you years to find out
I'm not giving up
And when you've had enough you'll take your bruised little head
And you'll come running back to me
You know that I'm gonna be the only one

Such A great band! I could listen to the Descendents every day and be content.

personally I think this Song is about A guy who is in love with a good friend that already has a man and he's always the one thats there for her when something goes wrong. "When he starts to lie when he makes you cry you know I'll be there" he stays around and is always there for her in "hope" that he'll get her in the end no matter how much it tortures him to see her with another guy for now.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that there might be something darker behind this song? He starts with "Why can't you see you torture me?", meaning he likes her, but knows he has no chance with her. His excuse is that she has a boyfriend, but really he knows she is way out of his league. By saying "You wait for his spark/cock, you know it'll turn you on", he means that her attraction to this other guy is purely sexual; ostensibly she will end up with the singer because of true love. However, he doesn't back this up with what he says. The whole thing is kind of condescending ("You don't know what you want, It's gonna take you years to find out"), and lines like "I'll have my way, you won't have a say anyway Cause I've got you" make it sound like he's only interested in her as part of some kind of sadistic fantasy. Although the guy she's currently with is portrayed as using her, this is most likely the singer projecting his own personality onto the boyfriend through jealousy.

This song is one of the best Descendents song, I think it's just about some guy waiting for some chick to come to her sense and fall in love with him, even though she's with some asshole who doesn't treat her right.

man this song is the best song i've ever heard i think. descendents are one of the best bands i've heard too. they have a way of making awesome music instrumentally and also making lyrics about girls and the such. normally when "punk" bands write songs about girls they are all ballads and stuff, they are all the same pretty much. and all those songs are pointless and stupid. this song is actually ABOUT something, a girl that tortures him, she doesn't see how much he loves her and she just moves from guy to guy without realizing that he is right for her. but he knows his day will come. what a greatly written song and a great voice too

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this song. I don't listen to a great deal of punk, but this song is a classic. The focus is a guy who has lost a girl who was very important to him. Obviously, by the way he feels, she must have left him for another man. Sooner or later, he believes that his love will come back to him when she finds out the new guy isn't what he seemed to be. Sublime and Soul Asylum did some nice covers of this song, try searchin around.

this is by far the best song MILO ever wrote in the descendents. i had singled him out as merely the voice, and the brain behind some of their poorer songs, but he proved himself with this one song. classic.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
