Hip hip
Hip hip
Hip hip
When you're on a holiday
You can't find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I want to feel it too
On an island in the sun
We'll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain
Hip hip
Hip hip
When you're on a golden sea
You don't need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zone
On an island in the sun
We'll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain
We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever
We'll never feel bad anymore

We'll run away together
We'll spend some time forever

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Punchline

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Head > Heels

Maybe there's a double meaning to this song, but I interpret as being about doing drugs. Now this idea maybe a little shaky, but I think the guy in the song sees his that his love interest does drugs and he wants to feel the same thing she does.
These are a couple things that led me to believe this:
"When you're on a holiday You can't find the words to say All the things that come to you And I want to feel it too"
My interpretation: Getting high is commonly refered to as "holiday" and when you're high you often have a hard time completing coherent sentences and saying whats on your mind. "and I want to feel it to" Refers to the fact that the guy wants to feel the high his love interest feels.
"On an island in the sun We'll be playing and having fun And it makes me feel so fine I can't control my brain"
my interpretation: "island in the sun" could mean the place where he feels like he is when he's high. "It makes me feel so fine" refers to the fact that he has fun when he's high. "I can't control my brain" means he cant control his brain because he's so stoned.
"When you're on a golden sea You don't need no memory Just a place to call your own As we drift into the zone"
my interpretation: He has no worries about anything when he's drifting into the zone (doing drugs)
That's my read on the song, what do you guys think about that take?
@alwaysanole Not unreasonable, but intense love can cause effects similar to drugs as well, so I'm not sure the drugs are really necessary.
@alwaysanole I think this is spot on, as "Golden" is a synonym for Heroin also. (Look : "Golden Brown - The Stranglers)

It has some happy aspects, i think its what a guy is telling his girlfriend after something catastrophic has happened like parents are moving and forcing him or her to come and their forced to part. He's trying to calm her by telling her that they'll run away to some paradise where pain, agony, and worries of the present are nowhere to be found. They can forget the bad times, they can have fun and play and be perfect. and the sad part is that that'll never happen because in life, there are no islands in the sun.
This song is completely inapproiate for the Olsen Twins. It's not the most upbeat song when you look at it. To me, it seems to be more about sour relationships. Someone one loved, but the love was not returned or there was no chance. Or about a very cherished relationship that just went down the drain. "We'll never feel that anymore," 'ya know? I love this song - it's great - but it brings back sad memories.
These lyrics are wrong. It's not "we'll never feel that anymore." It's "we'll never feel bad anymore." Every other lyric site and the liner notes are my cited sources.
I'm on that with red-spyder, I hear it as 'we'll never feel bad anymore' too. I think it's about him having a thoughts about running away from life with his girlfriend, and how they be where they wanted to be the most (an island in the sun) and how everything would be perfect and blissful.
it does come off as a happy song, but when you look at the lyrics it is sad. it's catchy though, and the spike jonze video is so cool.
this is one of my fav songs ever! i think this song isn't about him being on holiday, it's about him being in love with a person who makes him feel the emotion you feel whilst on holiday- bliss this song should no-way be on the olsen twins movie, common! u gotta have some pride!!
i'm going to go on a limb and say that i think this song could be a direct response to 'across the sea'.
ATS: "goddamn, this business is really lame I gotta live on an island to find the juice "
hence IITS
in ATS, rivers is completely depressed by a girl that he cannot be with because of the distance and goes insane and dreams of a better time. in IITS, he happily responds "we'll run away together, we'll spend some time forever, we'll never feel bad anymore"
"When you're on a golden sea You don't need no memory" is probably another response to not looking back to the bleak past and enjoying the present time together.
could be a slight over-analyzation but rivers is way too much of a twisted genius to write songs so straight forward on green. in fact, i wouldn't rule out that every song on green could be responding to songs on 'pinkerton'...very possible.
anyone else think of this?
I personally love this song, and the meaning behind it. But it's also kind of sad in a way, because Weezer always has a tendency, even in their heartbroken songs, there's always something in them that gives hope of something better, or comfort in knowing that you're gonna be okay. I don't know, this song kind of gives off some of that feeling, like there is some better place out there from where our lives are currently at right now. Pretty much this is a great song. I don't watch Mary Kate and Ashley movies so I've never heard this song in any of them lol, but I can see where that ruins it for some people. lol.
I think this is actually a happy song about almost..escaping from reality a while and not thinking about your problems & worries. This song actually makes me feel happy haha, I love it =)
I think it goes "We'll never feel bad anymore".
I think the song is basically about him on holiday with his girlfriend, and he is enjoying time with her. Then he is imagining that they will have their own "Island in the sun", and they can be with each other forever.
@Jaffer I think what the song is really about just simply enjoying life no matter what goes wrong when your in love with a girl that just have fun out in the sun and make time together and enjoy yourselves good song it's has real good vibe to it
