I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly those feelings
Were clouded by what I know now

Where has my heart gone
An uneven trade for the real world
I want to go back to
Believing in everything and knowing nothing at all

I still remember the sun
Always warm on my back
Somehow it seems colder now

Where has my heart gone
Trapped in the eyes of a stranger
I want to go back to
Believing in everything

I'm surprised no one has brought religion into this. As a former Christian turned atheist, these lyrics speak to me. Whether or not this was the intended meaning, this is exactly the way I felt when I de-converted. I wanted to go back to "believing in everything and knowing nothing at all". And "trapped in the eyes of a stranger"... growing up I never would have imagined being an atheist, it was becoming something totally foreign to all of my previous life experience. However believing in God just goes against all my reasoning, and now that I've already done this process I can't go back to blissful ignorance. There was healing afterwards but this song definitely captured what it felt like for me at the time.

i completely agree with chino69, thats exactly what it means to me, i almost cry'd the first time i heard this song.

having said that though, i have managed to keep a lot of the hope i had as a child, in a way im still a kid (im 21 btw) but i dont care, cos im happier because of it :)

From this song, I get that there is someone that has grown up to become bitter and cold towards others, and in hindsight, they are nostalgic for the days of their childhood, when they were more innocent and ignorant of the workings of the world.

I know I agree with Emily, why would you say Amy Lee is a genius and credit her with so much, and then tell everyone to steal the band's music? Makes no sense :(

This song is simply beautiful! I wish it made the cut on fallen because the emotion of it is so amazing. All of you Evanescence lovers who hasn't gotten a scent of this one, you have to absolutely listen to it.

To me, once again the band has struck a chord in my heart, because I can relate SOOO much. Especially this one. Where as a child you could imagine so much, weave so much energy around you. I role played with other children. I didn't worry about reality's bite. I believed in love, hope, and the goodness that happiness brought me. I was innocent and I merely followed my heart without even as much as a single thought.

Now, with the introduction to the system. The world of credit. Bills. Manipulation. And Violence. So much is lost within people. So many people have receded their very beliefs as a child and still there are others who completely gave them up.

I'd give anything to run in green fields again. Give anything to to just lie down and look at the stars without in-as-much a thought on how I'm going to make it in life, or how I'm wasting time. Ignorance is such bliss.

I believe it to be an uneven trade for your heart for the reality of life. So I decided to keep my heart. To keep my childhood innocence. To keep love and to know that anything can happen.

It makes me stronger as an adult to retain the child within you. Thank you Evanescence, for once again revealing the sadness and more so what people lose when they grow up. Only if they choose to.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
