Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed

Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
But I know, there's a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together

Layin' face down on the ground
My fingers in my ears to block the sound
My eyes shuttin' tight to avoid the sight
Anticipating the end, losing the will to fight
Droplets of yes and no
In an ocean of maybe

From the bottom, it looks like a steep incline
From the top, another downhill slope of mine
But I know, the equilibrium's there
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together

Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed

Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
But I know, there's a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love, my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together

Between, my love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together (between)
Somebody put me together
Somebody put me together (between)
Whoa oh oh oh (my life is falling to pieces)

    My Opinion

The song is about having a broken heart, "somewhere in between my love and my agony" Droplets of yes and no= mixed signals, the picture beneath=one day recovering and everything will be ok again. somebody put me together= i need love in my life.

Great song. I think it's about those times in your life when you're absolutely frustrated and everything seems to be going wrong, but most of the time it's your inner demons causing this, as everything around you is ok. So on a personal level you are torn, but your surroundings are great, and I think that's what Mike's referring to by being in between.

great song, i kind of agree with sikabekaniko... basically a song about frustration with ones self, loss of direction, never meeting your own expectations..... he's lost in a world of unknowns, lost in indecision... anyone ever go through a depressed phase? the song explains it perfectly

Just like to add that this song was used on the soundtrack for "Black Hawk Down", a truly magnificent film, & what a great song to go with it!

This is one of my personal favourites. I love just how overdramatic it all is.

By the way, I think the video makes it clear that this song is intended to make fun of 'woe is me', pretentious, humourless songs. Look at the way he mouths "droplets of 'yes' and 'no' in an ocean of maybe" in the video. It's clear he's taking the piss. I mean, it's arguably one of the most funk-tastic songs they've recorded, so I think the lyrics are meant to be taken as ironic. The band The Smiths did the same sort of thing...

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
