Sister of night
When the hunger descends
And your body's a fire
An inferno that never ends
An eternal flame
That burns in desire's name

Sister of night
When the longing returns
Giving voice to the flame
Calling you through flesh that burns
Breaking down your will
To move in for the kill

Oh, sister, come for me
Embrace me, assure me
Hey sister, I feel it too
Sweet sister, just feel me
I'm trembling, you heal me
Hey sister, I feel it too

Sister of night
In your saddest dress
As you walk through the light
You're desperate to impress
So you slide to the floor
Feeling insecure

Sister of night
With the loneliest eyes
Tell yourself it's alright
He'll make such a perfect prize
But the cold light of day
Will give the game away

Oh, sister, come for me
Embrace me, assure me
Hey sister, I feel it too
Sweet sister, just feel me
I'm trembling, you heal me
Hey sister, I feel it too

I'm really connecting with this song right now.

Night is the loners' time of day, which is why she's "of night". He calls her a sister because he "feels it too". That is, he's also lonely. He understands this woman because he feels exactly the same way himself; THAT's the real point of the song. That, and of course, that he thinks they should cure each other of their loneliness.

The imagery of fire and whatnot is metaphorical - she is "burning in desire's name"; in other words, she yearns to not be lonely anymore. The loneliness is so powerful that it threatens to "kill" her (also only metaphorically).

The stanzas about feeling insecure and the one after that are referring to her search for a man to end her loneliness. The "he" might refer to the singer himself (just as she's a hypothetical woman to him, he's a hypothetical man to her).

So he's basically saying, "Hey, lonely girl who feels exactly like me, I know you're out there. Let's get together".

I always thought it was about heroin.. I also read that it was the last song the singer recorded under drugs effects. The refrane sounds quite clear to me: "oh sister/ Come for me /Embrace me/ Assure me .... /I'm trembling /You heal me. I could also be wrong.

I thinks the sister of night is Death. The writer is waiting to die and escape this world of pain.

I thought it was about the Sun since its the opposite of night but is related. Especially due to all the fire related imagery

From my point of view this song refers to our dark side. He is trying to empathize with his dark side so it becomes and allied and not an enemy so he can control it. He is describing his dark treats trying to distinguish them and define them to understand its nature without judgements and feel the pain from another perspective recognizing that our dark side is a strong adversary urge desires that breaks our will making us fall but its okey because energy can't be created or destroyed it can only be transformed and the only way we can reveal light is from transforming our darkness. So he is seducing his dark side becoming smart using his dark side strategies giving him some hope to see the light. Such poetic imaginery verses.

A great song, back in the day when i first heard it I was sure it was perhaps about a nun and a priest having a "go" at it. Alot of DM songs have religon as an undertone in them. I'm not so sure if it means it now. It could be about a relationship with a girl who is a stripper or a prostitue. I dunno.

its definitly about a female vampire who the speaker is not only watching but wants her to turn him or at least just feed off his blood. "Calling you through flesh that burns Breaking down your will To move in for the kill' Calling you through flesh that burns Breaking down your will To move in for the kill When the hunger descends And your body's a fire An inferno that never ends

    these lines say it all

Always figured this song is about the rather insecure girl who has sex with alot of guys because she finds confirmation that way, she aims to please but is still somehow ashamed of it.

I agree with DMBLISS. I think sister of a night is Angel of Death. He has big pains in life and thinks that only death can heal him. He's afraid of her but still wants her to come for him. Sister of night In your saddest dress As you walk through the light You're desperate to impress So you slide to the floor Feeling insecure

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
