Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called, "Yellow"
So then I took my turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know
You know I love you so
You know I love you so
I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh, what a thing to do
'Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh, what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry
It's true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called, "Yellow"
So then I took my turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know
You know I love you so
You know I love you so
I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh, what a thing to do
'Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh, what a thing to do
And it was all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry
It's true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
When I listen to this song I think of my little boy. He is now seven years old. He was born with highly functioning autism - aspergers. Although he has a "disability" he is the most special, beautiful, miraculous thing that has ever happened to me. I am a single dad and for the longest time it was just us. As the lyrics of this song go, I would do anything and everything for him... for his happiness. It's been hard at times and we've had to sacrifice a lot but everything was worth it. This song will always make me think of him. I dedicate it to him. "Yellow" is essentially about the undying selfless love one person feels for another. Be it a spouse, dear friend, mother, father, daughter, or son, etc.
@christianv I agree with you in that the song is about undying selfless love. However, I see it as the undying selfless love that our Savior, Jesus Christ has for us. He helped to create the beautiful earth that we live on and enjoy each day. He came to earth to show us the way to live and to tell us how we could live in order to return to live with Him again someday and He suffered for our sins and infirmities in order that we can repent and also know that someone truly does love us and knows us more intimately than we could ever guess. He truly does know what we feel like, because he has felt all of our pains and sorrows. What a beautiful song!
@christianv that is a great tale of how you have made the song yours. That said, the song is about absolutely nothing, as ColdPlay have confirmed in several interviews. That you can make a song about nothing into something, makes the song special, and yours, especially a touching one.
@christianv - Yellow Color Psychology and Meaning

Yellow is the brightest color of the visible "spectrum", and it is the most noticeable of all colors by the human eye.

It means happiness and optimism; it is the color of sun shining, or bright light and creativity. It is believed to have an influence on the left side of our brain, where deep thinking and perception dwells. - I also have a son such as you who turned 21 yesterday and this song kept going through my mind while having the thoughts and emotions one has when their kid becomes an adult. I decided to look up the lyrics and found your interpretation (first thing). I think that was the reason the song was going through my head I think - and so I shared it with him.
@christianv Wow. I am in the same boat, being a single dad and the song reminds me of my son with autism and the love I have for him.
@christianv sending love from manila!! I was moved by your comment.. im also a single mom...
by first impression you can say that it's a Love song but... the Word "Yellow" actually doesn't have any meaning here.
Read following paragraph for explanation -
Martin went on to further explain that the word "yellow" has absolutely no meaning whatsoever and while writing the rest of the song he tried his best to change yellow to something else since every lyric before yellow made no sense but in the end the word "yellow" just sounded right. Martin also told Stern that through the years depending on the attitude and manner of whoever interviews him, he would make up some story about a song or album titles just to move on to the next question. Martin applauded Stern saying "I like you, Howard, so that's the first time I've ever told anyone the truth behind 'Yellow'."
...and guess what, I like his explanation that that Word Yellow really does NOT have any meaning but it still fits perfectly and feels good and People are coming up with their own interpretations and that's Good. As long as people can connect themselves, you have hit the right chords!
I am soo happy someone else understands the meaning of this song here lol, your absoblutly right about the word yellow, it was the only 2 sylable word they could think of at the time of writing the lyrics, i also heard that it was actually the yellow pages, that actually gave them the word they were looking for lol but your also right in that your not putting anyone elses opinions down, like you said "as long as people connect themselves" ..... i take my hat off to you ! ! !
@chamya Exactly. Touchy feely gibberish perfect for its time.
i think this song is about custard
good job
ROTFL thats funny
But seriously you are an idiot
ROTFL
And fish fingers. Anyone? No. Alright.
@musicAlgarve No. Mustard.
It's a beautiful love song, with just enough rocky bits, and for me the most poignant line is 'For you I'd bleed myself dry.' Something about that line strikes a chord with me everytime I hear it.
To me, this song is about a girl who leads a wonderful life (hence the title, yellow). She obviously has a boyfriend, and everything else is good. Except she doesn't see her life that way. She's the opposite of yellow, depressed. She can't see how good everything in her life is. Maybe she has depression. This girl's boyfriend tries to convince her to be happy. For example, "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you." That's how I see this song.
It's about The Simpsons
@algunmae duh.
Okay so this is a little far fetched but hear me out...it seems it could be written to a girl who doesn't love herself and has an eating disorder. He loves the girl deeply and is troubled by the fact that he would do anything in the world to help her but she doesn't have the piece of mind to help herself. Idk, what do you guys think?
Do you really think so??
Do you think this song will make her understand, how much he loves her??
This is also how I interpreted it. I've had some trouble with self image, leading to having an eating disorder of sorts.
:O SERIOUSLY?
how did you arrive at eating disorder.
Scorpio99 I think instead of worrying about your image you should worry about your iq which I dont think is more than your age
I feel like this could be a good interpretation of the song, as yellow also means coward, and I feel like the song is about a girl who is yellow, thus not confident with who she is.
You are all wrong, this song is not about finding that special someone, or saying goodbye to your girlfriend. This song was made and dedicated to Chris Martins mom. She was sick and dieing from a disease that made her skin yellow. When she was sick, she lost a lot of weight which is why he says" you are skin and bones". It shows how much he loved his mom and all the things she did for him. He loves her so much that he would bleed just for her.
I'm almost positive this song is about a loved one who contracted Hep C or perhaps some sort of liver disease (which both turns your skin yellow) through drug abuse hence the line "I drew a line for you" implying his concern and looking out for her by 'drawing the line'. Also, the line that says "for you i'd bleed myself dry" could mean that he'd give her a blood transfusion if it would save her life. He talks about her "skin and bones turns into something beautiful" As well as at the end, when he sings about the stars and how they shine for her, which both imply that she passed away.
Yellow is the color of many things. Light, flowers, the sun and other stars, it represents happiness as well a illness in some cases. Yellow is a color that can mean many things and have many emotions. However, it is a primary color, therefore, one of the simplest colors. Just as true unconditionally love. It is unpredicatble and raw. It's simple yet profound. It's also infinite like the possibilities of yellow when it comes to what it can mean or what other colors you can make when you mix it. Yellow also comes in many shades and intensities just as love does. When you love someone you would "bleed [yourself] dry for them" and "[their] skin and bones turn into somethng beautiful" to you. This song is about unconditional love. The real type that everyone wants and deserves. The kind of love that is everything it wants or needs to be.
