You can look, but you can't touch
I don't think I like you much
Heaven knows what a girl can do
Heaven knows what you've got to prove

I think I'm paranoid
And complicated
I think I'm paranoid
Manipulated

Bend me, break me
Any way you need me
All I want is you
Bend me, break me
Breaking down is easy
All I want is you

I fall down just to give you a thrill
Prop me up with another pill
If I should fail, if I should fold
I nailed my faith to the sticking pole

I think I'm paranoid
Manipulated
I think I'm paranoid
And complicated

Bend me, break me
Any way you need me
All I want is you
Bend me, break me
Breaking down is easy
All I want is you
Ahhh

I think I'm paranoid

Bend me, break me
Any way you need me
All I want is you
Bend me, break me
Breaking down is easy
All I want is you

Steal me, deal me
Any way you heal me
Maim me, take me
You can never change me

Love me, like me
Go ahead and fight me
Please me, tease me
Go ahead and leave me

Bend me, break me
Any way you need me
As long as I want you, baby
It's alright
Bend me, break me
Any way you need me
As long as I want you, baby
It's alright

"It's about the music business. There's a line: 'If I feel down, prop me up with another pill' which came from a bad day on the road when an associate told Shirley to take a pill to settle down. It didn't work."

This song seriously is my anthem. i think its about her wanting attention from guys and she changes the way she is and lets them think that they can change her to fit their preferances, but in reality its all an act and she can never be changed inside "maim me, take me you can never change me".. she cant REALLY be changed inside, she just puts on an act 4 them so they want her (hence her thinking shes paranoid)

I don't know how you can think this song is about a guy. This song is about drugs! I thought that was pretty obvious. Here, I'll decypher it:

"you CAN (not can't) look but you can't touch i don't think i like you much heaven knows what a girl can do heaven knows what you've got to prove"

Sometimes drugs will make you high to the point where you feel on top of the world, like you can accomplish anything, and that you're hot and irresistable.

"i think i'm paranoid and complicated i think i'm paranoid MANIPULATED (not manipulate it) bend me,break me anyway you need me all i want is you bend me break me breaking down is easy all i want is you"

Weed makes you paranoid, anyone who's done it knows that. She's giving in to the high, the drug, telling it to change her (momentarily).

"i fall down just to give you a thrill prop me up with another pill if i should fail, if i should fold i nailed my faith to the stiking pole"

She's addressing the person she's getting high with. Many times while getting high with someone, we'll say something like "Oh man, I hope I don't pass out or trip badly. If I do, call soandso, their number is in my phone" or something to that nature. She's saying Cool, let's get hugh some more and if something bad happens, here's what to do.

Then she goes into the different and various reactions one can have to drugs:

"steal me, deal me,anyway you heal me maim me, take me you can never change me love me like me, come ahead and fight me please me tease me, go ahead and leave me bend me break me, anyway you need me as long as i want you baby it's all right"

I used to play Gran Turismo 2 for hours every day and this song was part of the soundtrack... I will never get it out of my head, accompanied of images of me slamming a 700hp Nissan Skyline into the barrier at seattle circuit. Awesome song.

"Prop me up with another pill"!This line has to do with a real incident taking place while touring!Shirley wasn't feeling OK and a record-label guy offered her a pill to get her back on her feet! There is a wee bit "music-business-offence" in the song but it's not all about it

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
