I take it in stride, one day at a time
If I ask no questions I'll hear no lies
How come blessings only come in disguise'
Try that on for size as I vocalize

ain't nothing gonna get in between me and my flow
Ain't nothing gonna come between me and my afro
My man just left me, what do ya know'
Easy come, easy go

He came out of the blue and went right back into it
Had to forfeit 'cause he couldn't get with it
Called it quits and when he split
He said he didn't have time for my juvenile bullshit

I've had a lot of failed relationships
I don't get involved because I'm not equipped
I believe that the world should revolve around me!

I don't see the point of a partnership
It won't be long until they start to trip
Yes siree, the whole world should revolve around me!

there's only one me in the galaxy
I am an endangered species
This kind of flower don't grow on Earth
Just lettin' you know for what it's worth

This kind of knowledge can cause a depression
So I bide my time with philosophical questions
Not for nothing, but what came first'
The chicken nugget or the Egg McMuffin'

I got talent and I got tits
I know I'll find another guy who wants to get with it
I'm not convinced that I'm a big fat whore
One man's pleasure is another man's chore

I've had a lot of failed relationships
I don't get involved because I'm not equipped
I believe that the world should revolve around me!

I don't see the point of a partnership
It won't be long until they start to trip
Yes siree, the whole world should revolve around me!

I know I rock and what I got is hot
And you know I got a lot
'Cause all that trippin' you gotta stop
Before you know it your ass'll be dropped

I ain't concerned with my biological clock
Since I never grow old, my money's always in stocks
Keep screwing that bitch from down the block
I don't need you around, I know I rock!

I've had a lot of failed relationships
I don't get involved because I'm not equipped
I believe that the world should revolve around me!

I don't see the point of a partnership
It won't be long until they start to trip
Yes siree, the whole world should revolve around me!

I've had a lot of failed relationships
I don't get involved because I'm not equipped
I believe that the world should revolve around me!

I don't see the point of a partnership
It won't be long until they start to trip
Yes siree, the whole world should revolve around me!

this songs gonna get big soon (: ! it's so good haha.

it's obviously about someone who's just finding confidence in themselves, not needing to depend on anyone else to validate them, and i love it.

Imani Coppola is such a legend! Sometimes it pays to think yourself as important as no one else is gonna care for you. I suppose in some ways its about looking out for yourself so you don't get hurt (relationships).

This song is about being okay working on yourself before you get into another relationship that you know won't work out... it's a really great song and I totally stole it from New York Goes to Hollywood I can't believe more haven't heard of it

gameshowntwork, I stole this song from the commercials for New York Goes to Hollywood too! I agree, it really is surprising that not many people have heard it. It's a fun song and would be kind of hard to get sick of. Mark my words, as soon as New Yorks show comes on, this song will totally take off!

There are some errors in the lyrics, for example it's "I've had a lot of failed relationships" not "I like failed relationships" and instead of "And if you turn With my biological clock Since I never grow Old my heart Is always in stock" it's "I ain't concerned with my biological clock And since I never grow old My honey's always in stock"

I actually saw this song on VH1's You Oughtta know, downloaded it, and then I saw it on New York's show by chance a few days later. I love this song, it's really great. Not my usual style of music, but the lyrics are so honest, and frankly, me. Haha.

the message is pretty clear to me, but i believe

'I'm not convinced That I'm a big fat bore'

MAY be 'i'm not convinced that i'm a big fat whore'

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
