Are you moving much too fast?
And the good times that just don't last
If you're always on the go
Make an angel in the snow
And freeze

Do you feel like you're stuck in time?
Forever waiting on that line
If nothing ever moves
Put that needle to the groove

And sing

Is it a dream keeping you awake?
Is it the stillness that makes you shake?
If you need to know for sure
What's on the ocean's floor
You'll sink

Do you like things the way they seem?
Or are you looking behind the scenes?
Well, if you've gotta know
What it takes to make it sow
Just believe

Are there dark parts to your mind?
Hidden secrets left behind?
Where no one ever goes
But everybody knows
It's all right

Do you get dizzy on the ground?
It must be something going 'round
What blows us here today
It'll blow us all away,
The breeze
Ahh, will blow us all away
The breeze
Ahh, will blow us all away
The breeze

This song is about there are so many things that we get caught up in and usually it is something natural and easy that brings us back to normal, such as the breeze. When you realize how taken up you are in something serious, ridiculous and how stressed you are, it is so easy to let go and have something simple take it all away.

I can't believe more haven't commented. I love Dr. Dog. The flutes at the end of this song drive me nuts (in a great way)

also, i was thinking about it today, and i thought that this song might actually also mean: everyone has problems and everyone goes through feelings through their lives, but in the end we all get the same FATE(name of the album) we all die maybe the breeze is a metaphor for death?

    Song Meaning

I think this song is about taking time to relax now and then and enjoy the ephemeral nature of life. As in, taking things less seriously and just having a good time for the sake of having a good time. The first few lines:

Are you moving much too fast? And the good times that just don't last If you're always on the go Make an angel in the snow And freeze

Show this especially for me, like a snow angel is a really idyllic thing that most people who are "always on the go" wouldn't have time for. But then the next stanza is the exact opposite, it's about people who are constantly bored and don't have much to do. AKA "If nothing ever moves, put that needle to the groove." Obviously that's referring to a turn table, and just listening to music, which, haha anyone who enjoys music can relate to. And a lot of this song is about contradictions, as in the next stanza.

Is it a dream keeping you awake? Is it the stillness that makes you shake? If you need to know for sure What's on the ocean's floor You'll sink

A dream keeping you awake, stillness making you shake? I think these are about feeling out of place, or that something isn't right. Like, stillness wouldn't make a normal person shake, but it's saying does it make YOU shake. The next lines, are sort of a joke about always needing to be right or wanting to be certain all the time. It says "you'll sink" as in, it'll be your downfall, you'll fail with that attitude. The next few lines are the most powerful for me.

Do you like things the way they seem? Or are you looking behind the scenes? Well, if you've gotta know What it takes to make it so Just believe

I love these, because it has such a message. "Do you like things the way they seem?" is all about people accepting things that they don't truly know about. That's why it says the way they seem, and then it says "Or are you looking, behind the scenes?" or, do you really know the true motives of things going on, and then in response you don't like them. I think the rest is a lot more cryptic and personal, so I'll leave it at that. Amazing song, so much meaning and really poetic. Dr. Dog is awesome!

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Page

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
