completely colorblind
these red lights are going unseen
far behind with words unsaid
you know they're always obscene
'cause my ears
they bled before
i need to let them heal

she fell out
her broken legs won't let her walk away
from this town that couldn't give a single shit either way
and her fears
they bled before she's convinced that they're real

what are you looking for
are you looking for something more
it's not me, it's not me

lost her way from everything
she swore she knew a friend
run away from start to finish
though it never ends
in her mind
she is blinded by all she sees

close your eyes
just pretend the bullet isn't there
no surprise
no need to pretend that no one really cares
but in her eyes you will find the very best in me

what are you looking for
are you looking for something more
it's not me, it's not me

when did it unwind
are you prepared for what you'll find
it's not me, it's not me

To me this song is about a long term relationship thats going south, yet they have been together so long, and are just ignoring all the signs (hence redlights going unseen). or in denial that they are fading apart. Its like she wants to move on or is searching for something more in her life but her fears are keeping her from actually doing anything about it (her broken legs won't let her walk away). He doesn't understand why she isn't happy, and what she thinks she is missing (what are you looking for, are you looking for something more?) and he is telling her with (its not me) that if you keep searching you will eventually realize that its me that you aren't satisfied with. (or i can't be what you want me to be.) Then sounds like the 3rd verse she tried to leave him and said she was going to stay with a friend to clear her head and figure out what she wanted. Then the "where did it all unwind" he is reflecting on where they started losing it, cause at one time they were so happy and he doesn't understand how it has come to this. and with the "are you prepared for what you'll find" is saying that if she looks close enough it will be obvious that that they're relationship is dying. because he is not who she wants him to be...and he won't ever be.

You can't go by the way the lyrics are typed. Honestly. As with poetry you go by the way they phrase it. With the third verse it would be "Lost her way from everything she swore she knew..." As in she's lost. The stuff that she KNEW (or thought she knew) isn't what she thought. And at the beginning... "She fell out, her broken legs won't let her walk away from this town that won't give a single shit either way..." That is exactly how I feel about my life. I could leave, I could die, and no one would really notice. Yeah, maybe a few, but in general no one would "give a single shit either way." That is one of my new phrases. Someone asks what I want to do... "I couldn't give a single shit either way." Its saying "I not only don't give a shit what happens, I don't give a SINGLE shit."

    Gotta love the Chef.

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
