A Mirror Without

Im surprised no one has commented yet.. but Ill leave my unprofessional opinion anyway.

I think this song is about a person going through an uncertain time in their life. Based around the underlying thoughts of having their significant other when it was just a 'him and her' (or whatever relationship combination) and everything seemed in place and right.

(I think this is more of a psychological thing.. his thoughts arent in the right place and he is trying to get back to how it was before the relationship but everyone is looking at him, expecting him to not feel the pain of the relationship and move on and be his 'normal self', Im guessing this is how when we see a clown we would expect him to be funny)

I keep on shelling out my memories My memories like cash Except they do not hold a currency A currency that lasts

(Again a psychological thing, trying to relive his memories from the relationship with other people and isnt getting the same response that his ex would have given him. He wants so much for those memories or his reaction to them to feel normal, because they once did, and it is natural for him to start thinking about his ex when a certain situation comes to play but others dont care about it as much as she would have, and she isnt around to make it matter).

(This is one of those weak moments, when things just arent going right or how they would have, one would think it would just be easier for the other person to be with them again. When once, everything felt so safe and right in your lovers's arms and when they arent there nothing seems right. Its pretty much self explanatory).

(I think this is sort of an angry verse toward his ex. If he had never met the one that had made such an impact on his life [and continues to without being there] then he wouldnt be so confused. Things wouldnt have changed and simple decisions would have remained simple).

I think I miss you even more...

(For the most part it speaks for itself, but I think there is some underlying feeling underneath. I think he just at a point in his life where things are tough and it would be a lot easier with someone by his side supporting his decisions and making him feel sane. I "think" I miss you even more, think being the key word, is he is unsure of himself in life, and say she were to return he would probably (regretting it later) be intimate with her. He is most likely strong enough in everyday life to not think about her, just at this moment he is weak and thinks he wants her).

(Now, Im not good with words, so Ill try to explain myself. Basically, I think this line supports my idea that he is in some sort of depression, not feeling sure of himself wondering what the point of life is and why he is here. Kind of read it like 'What good am I without you?' Sort of like a come-back to someone if they ask you question you dont have a sure answer to).

When there are spirits to take our place

(Again, unsure of life, wondering what the point of it is when his time on earth isnt definite).

So like I said, I think he is a depression and isnt sure of himself and misses his ex. Hope this helps out some.

Just for the sake of playing with thoughts: Perhaps "What's a mirror without a face?" connects to the concept that without a face do we exist? Is the mirror the only place we see ourselves and therefore with no face, who is there? Memories are not worth cash because we know that memory distorts each time we go there. In a nihilist way, he states that there is nothing absolute, that it's all a circus, he is one of the clowns. Aren't we all?

I think this song, is simply being in a relationship were you thought everything was great and certain and suddenly you find that everything changes and that the relationship wasn't as strong as you thought and that anyone could replace you and that you are just another person and that life itself is a big question mark. and he's saying he will miss her because he feels she's letting him go. Things aren't working out like he thought they would.

I thought the lines, "mirror without a face," and "when there are spirits to take our place," were referring to a deceased partner. The city is too overwhelming for his grief and he wishes he could go back in time so that he never had to experience the loss.
