I don't think that it's gonna rain again today
There's a devil at your side but an angel on her way

Someone hit the light 'cause there's more here to be seen
When you caught my eye, I saw everywhere I'd been and wanna go to

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave
With hope in your hands and air to breathe

I won't disappoint you as you fall apart
Some things should be simple; even an end has a start

Someone hit the light 'cause there's more here to be seen
When you caught my eye, I saw everywhere I'd been and wanna go to

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave
With hope in your hands and air to breathe

You'll lose everything by the end
Still my broken limbs you find time to mend

More and more people I
Know are getting ill
Pull something good from the
Ashes, now be still

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave
With hope in your hands and air to breathe

You lose everything by the end
Still my broken limbs you choose to mend

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave
You came on your own, that's how you'll leave

You came on your own
You came on your own

I just stumbled upon this song and immediately was struck by the contrast between the uptempo music and the serious and somber meaning of the lyrics. Below is a line-by line explanation of the meaning(s) I see in it:

I don’t think that it’s Gonna rain again today,

-> Today is going to be better than yesterday.

There's a devil at your side, But an angel on the way

-> There is something evil or bad here now but something better coming.

Someone hit the light, Cause there's more here to be seen,

-> Two possible meanings: Someone shed light on the situation as people aren't seeing all there is OR someone turn the light out because there is more to see than you can see with your eyes alone.

When you caught my eye, I saw everywhere I'd been And wanna go to

-> This is love at first sight. When he saw her he saw his whole life up to that point as leading to meeting her. He saw being with her as his future (where he wants to go to).

You came on your own, And that's how you'll leave,

-> You were born alone and everyone dies alone.

With hope in your hands, And air to breathe,

-> Not sure here... maybe this described being born with nothing and dying with nothing... nothing but hope and the air we breathe.

I won’t disappoint you, As you fall apart,

-> He will be there for her as she is dying.

Some things should be simple, Even an end has a start,

-> She is probably asking "why me, why now?" He is saying there is no deep and meaningful reason... some answers are simple... everyone dies and learning that she is dying is the 'start' of that eventual 'end'.

Someone hit the light, Cause there's more here to be seen, When you caught my eye, I saw everywhere I'd been And wanna go to

You came on your own, And that's how you'll leave, With hope in your hands, And air to breathe,

You'll lose everything, But in the end, Still my broken limbs, Will find time to mend

-> Even though she is dying and going to lose everything she finds time to try to help him with his grief.

More and more people I Know are getting ill Pull something good from the ashes now be still

-> With all these friends sick and dying, he should remember the good things about knowing and loving them despite the 'ashes' of the loss and grieving and be at peace ('now be still')

You came on your own, That's how you'll leave, With hope in your hands, And air to breathe, You'll lose everything, But in the end, Still my broken limbs, Will find time to mend

You came on your own, That's how you'll leave, x2

You came on your own x2

I think they mean that it's better to dream because everything ends... I think you guys are too positive :)

"He dreams of everything he wants to go to, but he knows he is going to die and everything will end"

    So start living!!

Great song. Really looking forward to the new album after this.

To me, this song is about being in denial about death, and the speaker in the song (Tom, I assume), trying to tell someone it's inevitable.

"You came on your own and that's how you'll leave" - when we all die, we usually die alone, the same as when we were born into the World.

I've had the song less than 24 hours, but in that time, that's all I can draw from it. I know it's wrong ;-).

no, I'm pretty sure you're right... in various interviews with Tom he's said that people that he knows and is close to died or became ill and that in turn influenced the whole album, and "An End Has A Start" certainly seems to be a clear example of that...

You came on your own That's how you'll leave With hope in your hands And air to breathe

somehow those lines give me the 'going up in white light' sort of image, yet somehow defying death cos of the 'air to breathe' part... waiting for the new album is gonna be torture if the whole CD's as great as this...

"Someone hit the light, Cause there's more here to be seen, When you caught my eye, I saw everywhere I'd been

And what I go to... "

The most significant words of this song in my opinion.. The need of believe in dreams..

As far as I can tell the line is "and wanna go to", not "and what I go to" (as someone says above). I think this line means that seeing the person (male/female?) makes him remember his ambitions and where he wants to go to in his life.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
