How can you always be late for your arrival?
You know I'd forgive you every single time

Retreat, retreat, I've fallen at the low tide
Oh, retreat, retreat and meet me by the quayside

In the end all you can hope for
Is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through

Are your eyes showing off for mine?
Your face in my hands is everything good I need

The system's put in place, put there to protect us
For you I'd throw a lifeline every time

Oh, retreat, retreat, I've fallen at the low tide
Now retreat, retreat and meet me by the quayside

In the end all you can hope for
Is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through

Are your eyes showing off for mine?
Your face in my hands is everything good I need

Bones starved of flesh surround an aching heart
Full of love

Oh, bones, starved of flesh surround your aching heart
Full of love

Bones starved of flesh surround your aching heart

Bones

Oh bones

I watch as your eyes show off for mine
I watch as your eyes show off
I watch as your eyes show off for mine
I watch as your eyes show off

"In the end all you can hope for Is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through"

    So simple, so real...

    My Interpretation

About an addict, most likely with an eating disorder, who is seeking help in recovery. She finds it hard to reach out to fellowships of the 12Step programme and attend meetings. She keeps relapsing and hesitating in asking for support. But she is welcomed every time she returns to the warm circle of fellow recovering addicts.

To me this is about a guy infatuated with a girl whose probably not that into him. He's blind to her flaws and he doesn't have the courage to tell her how much he loves her as he's unsure how she feels about him. She flirts with him, but she hurts his feelings a lot. But still he hopes that, in the end, he would've gotten as much love from her, as the pain this relationship has brought him.

I know, I love the chorus. That's kept me going more times than I can count... gives me an indescribable amount of hope that love is not just a figment of my imagination...

"In the end all you can hope for Is the love you felt to equal the pain you've gone through" This is definitely a top class song from this amazing band. The tune is so catchy and rocky, and the lyrics are so beautiful and uplifting.

Completely off the subject, but I think Tom is, like, the hottest guy ever. He looks especially cute with his longish hair!!!! ;-)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
