i have tried
my hopes have blossomed
and my hopes have fried,
i tried to cut them all down
but i found hopes were still living deep inside,
like a team of renegade lovers
working long hours sneaking around
with a belief in the life of our love,
like a light at the end at the end
of a long tunnel; a struggle

fist up!
for all their faith in one preceding a face,
they really do believe that if
they hang on long enough
that you'll come around
and finally let it show
and all their hopes will be rewarded
for their impetus to grow,
well utopian piece would fall across the land
you'll reach over for my hand,
you'll really want to hold my hand

And i don't want to come to the point of this song,
because the point of this song
would happen to be so long.

It gets hard:
the vigilantes can't agree on who's in charge,
they gave their souls for the cause
but the love that they were after is still at large
see this faith in which they found allegiance
ripping at the seams as hope is running it's course
the rebels just cant muster the force
to walk the thin line between belief and delusion
and

fists up! for all their faith
in one preceding a face
they really did believe
that if they've hung on long enough
that you'd come around
and finally let it show
and all their hopes would be rewarded
for their impetus to grow
utopian peace would fall across the land
you'd reach over for my hand,
you would've really wanted to hold my hand

and i don't want to come to the point of this song because the point of this song would happen to be so long[long long long long long long long]

It was perfect you know
with just one little problem
the fact that it turns out
you don't really want it
my love is a fortress,
my love is a Louvre
but it cant ever thrive
if i'm forced to keep proving it.

x3

are you kidding? this song is amazing, why is there only one comment on it so far!?

anyone who has been in a relationship where one party is willing to work out their differences but the other party isn't really concerned can relate. to have someone you love say "it's too much work/i don't care, let's just give up" is heartbreaking. to turn it into such an upbeat-sounding song is great.

i think the whole meaning is pretty obvious. she's tried to stifle her hopes for the relationship, but deep down inside she loves him and wants it to work. she's got "a belief in the life of [their] love." she wants him to come around and reward her hopes for trying; that he'll "really want to hold [her] hand." she doesn't want to admit that it's a dead-end, hopeless relationship (the "point of the song" is to say goodbye). i absolutely love these lines and the way she sings them: "It was perfect you know with just one little problem the fact that it turns out you don't really want it." so concise, sums up any relationship that doesn't work out because one person doesn't care, whether it be an unrequited crush or a relationship that lasted for years.

i think this song is amazing. i love the blow.. and the fact that many people don't know about it. however it sucks when i listen to them in my car and none of my friends know it... but basically this song means to me that the singer is talking about how she tries to display a nonchalant care about the relationship but deep inside wants to have one but has low expectations for it so she wont be let down... i've personally gone through this situation so many times and i like how the happy upbeat music contrasts with the concept.

As I was getting ready this morning, I popped on the blow and this was the first song that came up. I literally had to sit down and listen to the whole thing because It's my exact situation right now. Everyone has gone through it so anyone can relate. Its awesome, I love it.

I was thinking of telling my boy to download it and see if he gets the hint!

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
