Anne Boleyn she kept her tin
Which all her hopes and dreams were in
She plans to run away with him forever
(Never to be seen again)

Leaves a note and starts to choke
Can feel the lump that's in her throat
It's raining and she leaves her coat in silence

We're sorry but we disagree
The boy is vermin, can't you see?
We'll drown his sins in misery
And rip him out of history

People marching to the drums
Everybody's having fun to the sound of love
Ugly is the world we're on
If I'm right then prove me wrong
I'm stunned to find a place we belong

Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When will this stop?!

Racing, pacing in the dark
She's searching for a lonely heart
She finds him but his heart has stopped
She breaks down

We're sorry but your majesty
Refusing orders from the queen
Results in a monstrosity
(Remembers a voice and hears him sing)

People marching to the drums
Everybody's having fun to the sound of love
Ugly is the world we're on
If I'm right then prove me wrong
I'm stunned to find a place we belong

Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When will this stop?!

People marching to the drums
Everybody's having fun to the sound of love
Ugly is the world we're on
If I'm right then prove me wrong
I'm stunned to find a place we belong

Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell

Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell

(People marching to the drums)
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
(People marching to the drums)
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell

(People marching to the drums)
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When hell freezes over, that's when I'll tell
(People marching to the drums)
Who is your lover? I couldn't tell
When will this stop?!

    Song Meaning

Transylvania is obviously about Dougie being gay. Being gay in these times is like being Anne Boleyn in the story of the song. Dougie was secretly dating with Danny and Danny did't want to make it public but Dougie did so... this song is about that. Dougie and Danny aren't together now, Dougie dumped Danny because he got fed up of being secretly dating with him, such a pity.

You know "who is you lover?" "I couldn't tell" says it all.

I love this song!!!! Favourite on the new album, Little Joanna as close second. Doug's quite the songwriter. I don't really know what it means... something about people being in love but it's really not allowed. lav it.

I hated this song at first...especially since Dougie's voice actually made my ears want to bleed. Why is it so high pitch?! It made me cringe at first. But then I overlooked his screechy voice and it began to grow on me. It's a pretty cool tune to be honest. Have no idea what the meaning is, but I think Dougie should write the songs more often :]

i found out that Dougie wrote this song, which then meant i had to find out more because i love him :)

this is what i heard the song meant. its set in like medival or tudor times. its about a queen or princess (Anne Boleyn was one of Henry 8th's wives). and she's in love with a servant or peasant guy- and plans to run away with him. the lyrics "rip him out in history" are the royal court talking about getting rid of this servant peasant guy because he's not high enough class for Ann Boleyn.

however he's really happy so sings out loud about his love for her ( "everybody having fun to the sound of love")

its basically how the high class of the time disagree with their relationship. i think its a really unusual mcfly song, but i really like it. especially the end bit with "who is your lover.. " dougie did a good job writing it :) hope this has helped anyone who didnt know wot it meant. xxx

Wow okay I've listened to this song so many times, and I have no idea what its about. I know that Dougie wrote it, and I know he's a little weird. I was definitely not suprised he wrote lyrics such as these, because they seem to jump all over the place, and are a little dark and weird.

If anyone could pitch in what they think, I'm madly curious...

I think the lyrics sort of just tell the story of Ann Boleyn, second wife of king Henry VIII. She was beheaded on charges of adultery and treason, apparantly she had several affairs with guys of lower class. The parts Tom sings tells the storyline about Ann Boleyn and her lover. The parts sung in those deep voices are the oppinions of the people in that time, they didn't approve of it because 1. Ann was married to Henry and 2. the guys she had an affair with were all of lower class. ''Drown his sins in misery and rip him out of history'' might refer to the fact that Ann's lovers were also beheaded a few days before her own execution. Dougie's part (the chorus), I think, is the lover's point of view. He doesn't care about all the people that dissaprove of their relationship, he's just happily in love. that's what I think, but yeah..knowing dougie it could be anything really..

    P.S. LOVE this song! xx

ahhh thanks! yeah, you're right, coz i went on their website and they explain the story behind every song. i'm guessing the part that alternates between tom and danny is the view of ann? dougie should definitely write more often!

This is what Dougie said about the song:

Dougie: "It's set in medieval times – it has a very dark atmosphere – and it's about a member of the royal family falling in love with a farmboy. They plan to run away together where these things don't matter. The verses are narrated, the bridge is the guy singing and the chorus is the crowd singing."

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
