It's true, we're all a little, insane
But it's so clear now that I'm, unchained

Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds
But it's, taking over all the time

You poor, sweet, innocent thing; dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me, don't deny sweet sacrifice

One day I'm gonna forget your name
And one sweet day you're gonna drown in my, lost pain

Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds
But it's taking over all the time

You poor, sweet, innocent thing; dry your eyes and testify
You know you love to hate me; don't you, honey? I'm your sacrifice

(I dream in darkness I sleep to die, erase the silence, erase my life)

Do you wonder why you hate?
Are you still too weak to survive your mistakes?

You poor, sweet, innocent thing, dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me, don't deny, sweet sacrifice

    Amy's description of the song:

"It's the one song on The Open Door that's about the same abusive relationship which was the source of all the songs on Fallen. It was appropriate to put this song at the beginning, but it comes from a much stronger standpoint than Fallen. It's not saying, 'I'm trapped in fear and somebody save me.' It's saying, 'Fear is only in our minds ... I'm not afraid anymore.'"

Favourite off the album so far. I hope it's a single. Fantastic mix of that heavy guitar, haunting vocals, catchy tunes and amazing lyrics. There couldn't be any more proof of how talented they are.

    6 out of 5 stars.

does any1 else think this song could be about a girl that was abused or raped by a guy and she needs to overcome her fear and testify against him?

I really like what I've heard of the new album so far with the clips of the songs on the Evanescence myspace. I personally like the new style of lyrics. I like the old style as well. I don't see why a band should stick to one way of writing just for familiarity's sake.

This song is, so far, the best off the new album. Today, I went out and bought the whole cd. It's awesome. I love it. About the whole oh-my-gosh-evanescence-sucks thing. They don't suck and they never will. I mean, every band needs a change and I think this change is nice. Fresh. Something new. I do think that, because Ben left, none of their upcoming albums will be the same as their "Fallen" album. It's not like they changed from rock/alternative to country, for gods sakes. Relax people. Evanescence will always be the best band of all time.

To me this song never made sense. I would just skip it and go to number two. then one day i listen and it took on meaning. i may be totally wrong but to me it's about rape. she fears going on the stand to testify. she hates that she has to sacrifice herself to attempt to put the one who hurt her away. amy would be playing the mind of the girl and the physical version of her sacrifice.. just what i think..

    My Interpretation

''It's true, we're all a little insane. But it's so clear, Now that I'm unchained'' Amy understands that everyone has their moments, but she's had enough. She now understands now that she's left.

Fear is only in our minds, Taking over all the time. Fear is only in our minds but it's taking over all the time. She's afraid to leave this person or stand up for herself.

You poor sweet innocent thing. Dry your eyes and testify. You know you live to break me. Don't deny. Sweet sacrifice. She's finally gotten the revenge she wanted. He's begging for forgiveness but he's gotta live all the hell she went through.

One day I'm gonna forget your name, And one sweet day, you're gonna drown in my lost pain. While Amy's moving on, he's going to suffer the pain she once had.

And oh you love to hate me don't you, honey? I'm your sacrifice. She had to pay for his hatred. She was the one who had to deal with it all.

Do you wonder why you hate? Are you still too weak to survive your mistakes? He's realized what he's done and wonders why he was so horrible.

    JUST MY OPINION :)

holy crap this sound completely different from what i'd expect from evanescence. only 4/5 stars.

i guess their music styles can be categorized as pre-fallen, fallen, and post-fallen? i haven't listened to the other new songs.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
